HUDSON - One lane on the westbound side of the Veterans Memorial Bridge has been closed following a routine inspection. The decision for the closure was made out of an “abundance of caution” and was prompted by something that was found during the inspection, according to an announcement made by the town on Sept. 22. No information has been provided as to the nature of the problem, how it will be rectified or how long that part of the bridge will remain closed. The town is continuing to work with its engineering consultant and state officials to determine what should happen next. Opened in September 1970, the bridge carries approximately 37,000 drivers across the Merrimack River every day. Drivers seeking an alternate route should follow Lowell Road in Hudson to the ramp onto Circumferential Highway westbound and use the Sagamore Bridge to cross the river.
