John “Woody” Edward Woodbury

Nashua-John “Woody” Edward Woodbury, 63 of Nashua, NH passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, April 10, 2026, after battling several ongoing health issues the past two years.

John was born April 8, 1963, in Arlington, MA. the son of Philip A. Woodbury Jr, and Rose M (Quirck) Woodbury. The Woodbury’s would soon relocate to Nashua, NH where John attended Nashua Public schools and was a standout in youth sports playing his favorite baseball (in which he won several awards) as well as basketball and football. John was also highly regarded with a cue stick in his hand. At age 8 John and his siblings got a pool table for Christmas which sparked a lifetime love of the game. He quickly became an accomplished player beating much older boys and adults at the Boys Club of Nashua and progressed to competitive play on several teams on leagues in both Nashua and Laconia in which he amassed numerous trophies. He was very proud of his skills on the pool table and loved the camaraderie of fellow players. John’s friends will surely remember many fun hours spent playing pool at the house with him!

John was a graduate of Nashua High school Class of 1981 and went on to enroll at Keene State College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business/marketing graduating with the class of 1986. While at Keene State John joined the Phi Mu Delta fraternity where he made lifelong friends/brothers, coordinated activities to help the community and held the role of Social Chairman for several years in addition to being named Pledge Master. While at Keene State John met his former wife Tina (Perry) Woodbury. After graduation they settled in Nashua. Later they would live in Concord and Laconia, NH.

After obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree, John embarked on a career in restaurant management as well as becoming a cook and assistant Chef himself in Nashua, Concord, and Laconia, NH. He especially loved cooking for his family and friends and took pride in creating something delicious out of seemingly nothing and making stuffing “almost” as good as his moms.

In later years John operated his own painting and remodeling company where he took great pride in his work. Several times he also heard the call of the sea and ventured out on summer excursions working on a fishing boat out of New Bedford, Massachusetts bringing home fish and fish stories to share. If he had tried the fishing charter earlier in life he would have continued for multiple seasons, but later in life it can be a lot on the body which he quickly realized. That is not to discredit how much he truly enjoyed it though.

In 1994 John and Tina were blessed with a son John, Jr. Being a father was his most treasured gift, and he instilled the importance of family support, education and love for the great outdoors in his son. John loved holidays spent with family especially Christmas. Every year the entire Woodbury family would gather to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. This was a very intricate part of the Woodbury family’s holiday tradition, meaning a lot especially to John because he had moved away from Nashua. John and his son loved cutting down a fresh tree every Christmas season. It had to be the biggest tree possible. It would often be so large everyone was in disbelief how he got it in the house!

John enjoyed spur of the moment road trips to the coast. He considered the smell of the ocean and a swim under the moonlight refreshing. John especially enjoyed Wells and Ogunquit, Maine. The family would take weekend trips multiple times a year to get away and relax as a family. John really cherished these family trips. When thinking where John would be spending his time in heaven one can be sure near the ocean it would be.

John enjoyed the Red Sox, and he delighted in the honor of taking his mom, a dedicated fan to Fenway Park for a game. John’s son would later take him. John truly cherished these moments and would often speak of them when talking to family and friends.

John was someone who would literally give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger no questions asked and often volunteered his time to help friends and strangers in need. This characteristic was one of many important values he also instilled in John Jr from a very young age.

John was very proud of raising his boy John Jr and would love going to his sporting events and cheering him on. He also loved seeing him grow up and the man he would become. Before his passing the two of them would often get together and drive up to the Lakes Region to sit by the lake for the day with a fishing pole in hand. This was a bonding experience that never got old for the two of them. Even if they didn’t get a chance to fish, they would just go for a car ride to catch up. That was just as satisfying for John Sr because he truly cherished the time he got to spend with John Jr. The bond they shared was truly one of a kind.

John is survived by his Mother, Rose M Woodbury of Nashua, son John E. Woodbury Jr of Laconia, sister Rose A. Pelletier (Rene) of Alfred, ME, brother Philip A. Woodbury III of Nashua, brother F. Thomas Woodbury of Nashua, Step – Mother Mickey Woodbury of Laconia, and stepsisters, Debra Lacey (Ron) of Laconia, Rindy Lacey of Laconia and Diana Lacey (Jeanne) of Belmont along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

John is predeceased by his father Philip A. Woodbury Jr of Laconia along with many valued family members. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in John’s memory can be made to the Nashua Boys and Girls Club, One Positive Pl, Nashua, NH 03060.
