HS Roundup: BG lax tops Exeter; South baseball rolls

It was a day of firsts for some local teams on an incredibly busy high school sports day. The Bishop Guertin boys team got their first victory, while so did the Nashua South baseball team. But in the BG win it was the first career high school head coaching win for Brian Cameron.

Here’s the rundown of a Wild Wednesday:

BASEBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 9, ALVIRNE 1

The Panthers (1-3) take a victory over the Broncos (0-5) in a battle of the winless. Pacing the way for South were Kosay Tanaka (hit, two runs), Collin Kochanek (two runs), Jack Ninteau (hit, two RBIs), Leo DePaulo (two hits, two runs, three RBIs), Adam Murray (hit, run, two RBIs) and Gus Smiley (two hits, two runs, RBI).

Tanaka picked up the win allowing four hits and one run while striking out six. Playing well for Alvirne were Alex Small (run), Jaxson Polleck (hit, RBI), Brady Mitchell (hit), Mike Bebris (two hits) and Memphis Beach (hit). Brody Buja took the loss giving up five hits, five runs and striking out three.

South hosts Concord on Thursday and Alvirne hosts Nashua North on Monday.

BEDFORD 7, BISHOP GUERTIN 5

Nick Wyner (hit, two runs), Gavin Santos (hit, RBI) and Ethan Drouin (hit, RBI) played well in the Cardinals (2-2) close to the Bulldogs.

BG takes on Nashua North on Friday night at Holman Stadium.

DOVER 8, NASHUA NORTH 5

The Titans (1-4) hit the road and fall to Dover for their fourth straight loss. Mario Ramirez and Ty Byrne recorded a hit and two RBIs each. North hosts Bishop Guertin on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 12, PELHAM 1

The Cavs (5-0) continue their early season hot streak when they visited the Pythons. Putting numbers in the box score were Keenan Myers (three hits, run, two RBIs), Tyler Gryniewicz (two hits, run, two RBIs), Dylan Morelli (two hits, two runs), Matt Bergin (two hits, run, four RBIs), Connor Gryniewicz (hit, run, RBI) and Jordan Morelli (two RBIs). Ian Sinclair picked up the win allowing two hits, one run and striking out eight over four innings.

HB hosts ConVal on Monday.

MILFORD 7, CONVAL 5

Bryce Larco struck out 10 to help the Spartans (1-2) win their first game of the season. Larco (two hits), Gabe St. Onge (three hits), Logan Howard (multiple hits), Jacob Hill (multiple hits) and Will O’Connell (multiple hits) led the way at the plate. Milford visits Souhegan on Friday.

BELMONT 13, CAMPBELL 0

The Cougars (3-1) get shutout at home in their first loss of the season. Campbell gave up seven runs in the fourth inning. Braydon White, Ivan Schafer and Noah Reed managed to get hits. White struck out four over two innings. Campbell hosts Prospect Mountain on Friday.

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 19, BEDFORD 0 (5 innings)

Bella Nutting drove in four runs for the Cardinals with a double and three-run homer, and BG banged out 23 hits. Jenny Davey went 4 for 5 while Gabby Gillete, Meara McDevitt, Sophie Bilodeau, Avery Zapenas and Shayne Amico each had multiple hits. Davey tossed a one-hitter over five innings with eight strikeouts for BG, now 3-0 and hosting Nashua North on Friday.

LONDONDERRY 3, MERRIMACK 1

The Tomahawks fell in a pitchers duel. Lily Dionne did her part, pitching a complete game, allowing six hits and no earned runs while striking out five.

Cam Bellen had her first high school home run while Allie Wyand and Savanah Hansen had hits.

Now 2-3, the ‘Hawks are at Manchester Central on Friday.

PELHAM 17, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6

The Cavs (1-2) were wrapped by the Pythons Wednesday afternoon. Lindsey Emmons (two hits, run), Emily Tebbetts (hit, two runs), Ava Imbrogno (hit, two RBIs, run) and Sarah Seddon (run) played well in the loss. HB hosts Manchester West on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 14, EXETER 8

The visiting Cards got their first win of the season with a win over a fellow Divison I contender on the road. A four-goal spurt to give them a 9-5 halftime lead after the Blue Hawks rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie things at 5.

In the second half, the Cards kept pushing, up 13-7 after three.

BG is at Merrimack today.

SALEM 12, NASHUA NORTH 8

Dylane Noble scored five goals in the Titans (0-4) loss. Nico Bottari had an assist and Jack Krulikowski picked up four ground balls. North hosts Keene-Monadnock on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 14, KINGSWOOD 4

Ben and JP Torgersen collected four goals and one assist apiece to lead the Cavs (4-0) on Wednesday. Sam Petrella (three goals, assist), Noah Taylor (four assists), Mike O’Hearn, Colin Magnuszewski, Levi Mitchell (eight saves) and Mason Acheson (11 faceoff wins) contributed in the win.

HB visits Souhegan on Friday.

SOUHEGAN 9, PEMBROKE 6

Ayden McGrath (four goals), Matt Mullin (two goals, two assists), Brendan Silva (goal, two assists), Muse Cross-Swartzell and Chase Wilmot (goal each) led the way for the Sabers, helping to break open a 2-2 game at halftime. Sean Reardon had nine saves in goal.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 11, CONCORD 6

Maren Lowell (three goals, two assists) and Karina O’Donnell (three goals, assist, seven draw controls) each tallied a hat trick to pace the Panthers (3-1) offense. Saige Devins and Carly Benzekri scored two goals apiece, while Briley Landsteiner had a goal and Wylie Hart had two assists. Lilee Petricca made five saves in net. South hosts Concord on Friday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, SALEM 0

The Cavs (4-0) sweep up the Blue Devils 25-19, 28-26, 25-20. Ethan Norris (23 kills), Jameson Evelyn (five kills, five aces), James Kelley (seven kills) and Sam Hersey (34 assists) each had major contributions in the locals win. HB visits Londonderry on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

PLYMOUTH 6, MERRIMACK 3

The Tomahawks took the first two singles matches but managed just a doubles win thereafter.

Mikhail Agapov (9-8, 7-3) and Leon Rossman (8-5) got singles wins while the tandem of Wayne Alexander/Lucas Goldberg also won in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (8-6).

GIRLS TENNIS

PINKERTON 5, NASHUA NORTH 4

The Titans took four of six singles, but couldn’t get that final win as they were swept in doubles.

Singles winners for North were Mary Pappas (8-6), Brielle Baxter (8-3), Gabi Desjardins (8-6), Mariana Cajigas andLeena Srinivas (8-5).

DERRYFIELD 9, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Cougars continue to be one of the top teams in Division I as the Panthers found out, winning a total of 10 games in the nine matches. The closest was an 8-3 loss at No. 3 doubles by Ananya Arun/Vidhi Pawar.

BISHOP GUERTIN 8, WINDHAM 1

The Cards vaulted over the .500 mark (3-2) as they got singles wins by Georgie Howell (8-1), Sofia Zielinski, Jacki Krisciunas (8-2), and Lydia Miller (8-2), Dayana Cotito (8-5).

They went on to sweep doubles with Howell/Miller (8-2), Zielinski/Krisciunas (8-1) and Sanvi Garikipati/Grace Slocumb (8-4) all winning.

BG hosts Spaulding on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7, MANCHESTER WEST 2

The Cavs swept singles with Anuhya Chilakapati (8-0), Anna Heiplik (8-0), Sapph Sidhu (8-4), Max Walsh (8-4), Madeline Barich (8-1) and Carlie Holt (8-2) all coming out on top.

The No. 1 doubles team of Sidhu/Holt also won 8-5.
