HS Roundup: South takes commanding Bridge lead; softball wins

Wednesday was a South kinda day, as in Nashua South athletics. The Panthers won all six meetings with city rival Nashua North to grab at commanding 7-2 lead in the spring Battle of the Bridge.

Varsity lacrosse, sub-varsity lacrosse and tennis, boys and girls for all, picked up wins. And how good of a day was it for the Panthers? Softball drilled Bedford, a rarity.

Here’s a look at the day’s activity, including those South boys and girls tennis wins:

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 6, NASHUA NORTH 3

Yuvan Balagurumorrthy (8-3), Jerry Primo (8-1) and Sean Hall (8-6) won in singles competition for the Panthers (3-3). South swept doubles action with wins from Balagurumoorthy/Shrey Shah (8-2), Primo/Brian Grove (8-2) and Hal Newbold/Hall (8-0). The Titans (3-4) got wins from Connor McInerney (8-2), Jack Desjardins (8-0) and Jeet Panchal (8-1). South visits Bishop Guertin and North hosts Londonderry on Thursday.

MERRIMACK 7, KENNETT 1

The Tomahawks (4-4) dominate Kennett in their matchup on Wednesday. Mikhail Agapov (8-4), Leon Rossman (8-2), Nithin Sathappan (8-2), Jermey Nigen (8-4) and Connor Miner (8-1) won in singles. Agapov/Rossman (8-3) and Sathappan/Nigen (8-4) won in doubles. Merrimack visits ConVal on Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, MILFORD 0

The Cavs (7-0) shutout the Spartans (0-8) on Wednesday afternoon. HB saw singles wins from Arjun Inakollu (8-3), Ronan Finnegan (8-0), Greyson McSeveney (8-2), Samuel Anthony (8-2), Dylan Legrow (8-1) and Eli Mazzola (8-1). Inakollu/Anthony (8-4), John Torpey/Oliver Bradshaw (8-3) and Mazzola/Samuel Pistor (8-1) grabbed doubles wins. HB visits Kingswood on Monday and Milford visits Oyster River on Thursday.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 6, NASHUA NORTH 3

Saanvi Praturu (8-4), Riya Shroff (8-5), Gowri Akkineni (8-8, 7-5) and Ananya Arun (8-5) picked up wins for the Panthers (4-2) in singles. Krina Dani/Shroff (8-3) and Akkineni/Arun (8-5) won in doubles. Mary Pappas (8-6) and Brielle Baxter (8-6) won in singles and teamed up in doubles to win 8-2 for the Titans (4-3). South hosts Bishop Guertin and North visits Dover on Thursday.

SOUHEGAN 7, KINGSWOOD 2

Callie Perrin (8-0), Tess Jancar (8-1), Ori Dart (8-2), Caroline Drum (8-0), Sophia Yates (8-1) an Emma Perrin (8-2) swept singles competition for the Sabers. Callie Russell/Amanda Leary (8-6) won in doubles. Souhegan hosts Oyster River on Friday.

BASEBALL

TIMBERLANE 9, BISHOP GUERTIN 8

The Cardinals fall to 5-4 with a road loss to the Owls. Nate Bowen (two hits, run), Jordy Delude (two hits, double, two runs, two RBIs, stolen base) and Liam Ireland (hit, run, RBI, two stolen bases) played well on offense. BG hosts Merrimack on Thursday.

LEBANON 3, MILFORD 2

Logan Howard collected a double and a RBI and Will O’Connell kept his hot bat going with a hit in the Spartans (1-4) loss. Bryce Larco took the loss giving up five hits in a complete game. Milford hosts Pelham on Thursday.

SOUHEGAN 10,SANBORN 0

Drew Teagan went 3 for 3, including a triple, with 3 RBIs as the Sabers improved to 7-1. Blake Powers got his first varsity win checking Sanborn on three hits with six strikeouts over four innings. The Sabers face Hollis Brookline today in a makeup of Monday’s rainout.

SOFTBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 8, BEDFORD 1

The Panthers (3-6) put their three game losing streak to an end with a win over the Bulldogs. Brooke Berger, Cate Marvin, Nicki Gates, Emily Ricahrd and Shirley Njau each collected multiple hits as the locals had 14 total hits. Marvin earned the win giving up nine hits and one run over seven innings and striking out three. South hosts Salem on Thursday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 8, TIMBERLANE 6

Gabby Gillette drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Cardinals (8-1) past the Owls. Gillette had a grand slam and a triple in her offensive effort. Sophie Bilodeau and Bella Nutting added to the offense collecting three hits of their own. Jenna Davey earned the win surrendering eight hits and five runs over four innings and striking out six.

BG visits Merrimack on Thursday.

LEBANON 6, MILFORD 5

The Spartans (4-3) lose their second straight game on Wednesday. Haley Harrington had three hits with two RBIs and Teagan Goldstein had two hits. The locals had 10 hits in the contest. Alivia Mazzeo went all seven innings giving up six hits and striking out six. Milford hosts Pelham on Thursday.

BOYS LACROSSE

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 13, ST. THOMAS 12

The Cavs (7-2) came back from a 9-3 deficit to defeat St. Thomas on the road. Colin Magnuszewski (two goals, assist), Mike O’Hearn (four goals, assist), Bennett Torgersen (two goals, assist), Noah Taylor (goal, four assists), JP Torgersen (three goals, three assists), Sam Petrella (assist) and Patrick Masoni (goal) led the offensive unit. Levi Mitchell made seven saves in the second half. HB hosts Derryfield on Friday.

EXETER 12, MERRIMACK 1

Mason Tremblay made 18 saves and Quinn Curren made five in the Tomahawks (6-4) loss to Exeter. Sean Anderson scored the locals lone goal. Merrimack hosts Windham on Thursday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

GOFFSTOWN 14, ALVIRNE 7

Cadence Bice and Audrienna Chipperini were bright spots in the Broncos (0-8) loss with each picking up a hat trick. Alanna Tardiff scored a goal and Fiona Duggan made 14 saves in net. Alvirne visits Keene-Monadnock on May 14.

MERRIMACK 13, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6

Payton Trepaney tallied four goals and three assists in the Tomahawks (7-0) win over the Cavs (2-6). Riley Taylor (three goals, two assists), Ava Martin (two goals, assist), Jackie Hayes (two goals, assist), Lexi Bell (goal) and Ava Woods (goal) paced the offense for the Tomahawks. Sophia Richard made five saves. Merrimack visits Keene-Monadnock on Thursday and HB hosts Nashua South on Friday.

SOUHEGAN 17, KINGSWOOD 3

Izzy Stevenson (six goals, two assists) and Libby Kennedy (five goals, assist) each had phenomenal performances in the Sabers win. Emmie Curran (two goals, assist), Averie Curran (goal, assist), Abby Giannetti (goal, three assists), Lanai Hickman (goal, assist), Natalie Heimarck (four ground balls), Hailey Chirstianson (goal) and Eme Godin (assist) added to the locals win. Souhegan hosts Oyster River on Friday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, PINKERTON 0

The Cavs (7-0) sweep the Astros 25-15, 25-20, 25-15. Ethan Norris (27 kills, 10 digs) collected his 505th career digs to put him into the NHVCA state digs record book. Matteo Morel tallied seven kills and 11 service points and Alex Howe had four kills and six aces. HB hosts John Stark on Friday.
