HS Roundup: First career win for Bergeron; BG softball tops South

Now we are in the time of Manic Mondays.

High school action galore was the theme of the day yesterday, and there were some interesting results. Even the non-local teams had a local tie as Nashua North alum and Silver Knights pitching coach Spencer Bergeron recorded the first victory of his high school coaching career at the expense of local team Alvirne.

Bishop Guertin softball recorded a win over local rival Nashua South, and the Souhegan girls and Holis Brookline boys tennis teams stayed unbeaten. That and plenty more await below:

BASEBALL

WINDHAM 4, ALVIRNE 1

The Broncos fall to 0-4 in the young season after a loss to the Jaguars. Playing well for Alvirne were Jameson Krueger (run), Jaxson Polleck (hit) and Memphis Beach (hit). Brady Mitchell took the loss allowing four hits and three runs over five innings, while striking out four. Alvirne hosts Nashua South on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 11, MILFORD 0

The Cavs (4-0) took a 5-0 lead in the first inning over the Spartans (0-2) and kept piling on the runs. HB tallied 13 hits with Thomas Howie (two hits, three RBIs), Dylan Morelli (two hits) and Connor Gryniewicz (two hits) leading the way. Morelli earned the win allowing two hits and three walks over five innings andstruck out nine. HB visits Pelham and Milford hosts ConVal on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 7, HOPKINTON 3

The Cougars offense came alive in the top of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie led by Noah Reed’s (three hits, two RBIs) go ahead two run hit. Making contributions in the win were Luke Delia (two hits, RBI), Braydon White (two hits, RBI), Jack Curtis (hit, RBI), Brady Marcotte (RBI), Ivan Schafer (two RBIs) and Adam Correau (hit, RBI). Mikey Grace pitched six innings, allowing three runs and striking out seven. Curtis closed out the game with a clean seventh inning and ending in a strikeout. Campbell hosts Belmont on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 12, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Cardinals (2-0) had the hot bats on Monday to shut down the Panthers (1-3). Avery Zapanas earned the win surrendering four hits and striking out five over five innings. Meara McDevitt (triple, three RBI, run), Gabby Gillette (homerun, three RBIs), Shayne Amico (homerun, two RBIs), Jenny Davey (single, RBI), Bella Nutting (multiple hits) and Sophie Bilodeau (three hits, two stolen bases) led BG’s offense.

South’s Brooke Berger, Charlotte Primeau, Emily Richard and Shirley Njau each collected one hit. BG visits Bedford and South hosts Alvirne on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7, MILFORD 6

The Cavs (1-1) hand the Spartans (3-1) their first loss of the season. Leading HB at the plate were Sophia Brickner (three hits, two runs), Emily Tebbetts (homerun), Ashley Disco (hit), Lindsey Emmons, Sarah Seddon and Olivia Chakarian. Jenna O’Connor and Ava Imbrogno played solid infield defense. Milford totaled 11 hits, including Arabelle Danforth (two hits), Molly Miles (two hits, two RBIs), Abby Walters, Lea Lyons and Haley Harrington (two RBIs). Alivia Mazzeo pitched the entire game giving up eight hits and striking out four. HB visits Pelham and Milford hosts Manchester West on Wednesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

LONDONDERRY 17, NASHUA NORTH 5

The Titans (0-3) lose big on the road to the Lancers. Dylan Noble scored three goals, Jack Krulikowski had an assist and Josh Parson made 15 saves. North hosts Salem on Wednesday.

BEDFORD 20, NASHUA SOUTH 8

The Panthers fall to 1-2 when the Bulldogs came to town. Owen Roy (three goals, assist), Broden Landsteiner (two goals, two assists), Grant Imbeault (goal), Cody Jackson (goal, seven groundballs), Luke Lowell (goal), Tyler Benzekri (assist, six groundballs) and Jake Lynn (14 saves) played well for the locals. South visits Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

PELHAM 18, MILFORD 4

The Spartans (0-3) lose their home opener to the Pythons on Monday. Mitchell Broadhurst had a hat trick, Dylan MacLeod added one goal and Cam Callahan had an assist. Rocco Bartling and Brennen Cassidy made six and five saves respectively. Milford hosts Bishop Brady on Friday.

SOUHEGAN 11, MERRIMACK VALLEY 10 (OT)

Ayden McGrath (six goals, assist) scored the game winner to grab the Sabers (1-3) their first win of the season. Brandon Silva (two goals, two assists), Chase Wilmot (goal, two assists) and Matt Mullin (goal, assist) added to the offense. Sean Reardon made 14 saves in net. Souhegan visits Pembroke on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 10, KEENE 2

The Tomahawks improve to 3-1 with a win over the Black Birds. Trevor Shorette, Beau Lamontagne, Gavin Hickey, Colby Smith and Bret Vietry led the dominant defensive unit. Mason Tremblay collected 11 saves in net. Merrimack hosts Bishop Guertin on Thursday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

LONDONDERRY 8, NASHUA NORTH 7

The Titans (0-2) fall short against the Lancers. Molly Ducharme scored four goals, Devin Brown tallied two and Rachel Gauthier had one. Elliot Brown made 12 saves between the pipes. North visits Souhegan on Friday.

BEDFORD 15, NASHUA SOUTH 9

After a tight first half of play the Panthers (1-2) couldn’t keep pace with the Bulldogs. Addie Borden and Carly Benzekri each scored three goals, Maren Lowell had two goals and an assist, Briley Landsteiner had a goal, Saige Devins added two assists and Lilee Petricca made six saves.

South visits Concord on Wednesday.

PORTSMOUTH 16, SOUHEGAN 6

The Sabers (2-1) go on the road to face the Clippers and came home with their first loss of the season. Libby Kennedy and Izzy Stevenson scored two goals apiece, Lanai Hickman and Emmie Curran each had one and Abby Giannetti tallied an assist. Emma Crisman made five saves. Souhegan hosts Nashua North on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

WINNACUNNET 9, ALVIRNE 0

The Broncos (3-4) were shutout when they visited the Warriors. Alvirne hosts Goffstown on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, OYSTER RIVER 0

Winning in singles competition for the Cavs (6-0) were Arjun Inakoolu (8-6), John Torpey (8-5), Greyson McSeveney (8-1), Ronan Finnegan (8-0), Samuel Anthony (8-1) and Dylan Legrow (8-1). Doubles winners were Inakollu/Anthony (8-6), Torpey/McSeveney (8-5) and Eli Mazzola/Samuel Pistor (8-4).

HB visits Goffstown on Friday.

SOUHEGAN 6, PLYMOUTH 3

Brian Goddard (8-4), Balthazar Glover (8-1), Parker Schade (8-3) and Patrick Bryson (8-0) won in singles. Goddard/Glover (8-3) and Schade/Bryson (8-1) won in doubles. Souhegan visits Winnacunnet on Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 5, HANOVER 4

The Panthers (3-1) come away with a close win over Hanover. Singles winners were Piya Chokshi (8-6), Riya Shroff (8-6), Gowri Akinenni (8-4) and Ananya Arun (8-4). Akinenni and Arun (8-8, 7-5) won their doubles match for the locals. South visits Derryfield on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 8, OYSTER RIVER 1

The Cavs (4-3) dominate Oyster River on Monday afternoon. Anuhya Chilakapati (8-3), Anna Heiplik (8-5), Ava Porto (8-5), Max Walsh (8-3) and Madeline Barich (8-2) won in singles. Chilakapati/Porto (8-4), Heiplik/Walsh (8-4) and Sapph Sidhu/Carlie Holt (8-2) won in doubles. HB hosts Manchester West on Wednesday.

SOUHEGAN 9, PLYMOUTH 0

The Sabers (7-0) stay undefeated with a shutout over Plymouth. Callie Perrin (8-1), Tess Jancar (8-1), Ori Dart (8-0), Caroline Drum (8-0), Sophia Yates (8-3) and Emma Perrin (8-2) won their singles matches. Winning in doubles were Callie Perrin/Dart (8-6), Jancar/Drum (8-0) and Yates/Emma Perrin (8-1). Souhegan visits ConVal on Friday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, GOFFSTOWN 2

The Cavs (3-0) take down the Grizzlies 25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 19-25, 17-15. Ethan Norris (26 kills, eight blocks), James Kelley (eight kills) and Jemil Patel (24 assists) played well for the locals.

HB hosts Salem on Wednesday.
