NASHUA – State Rep. Bryan Morse (R-Franklin) was taken into custody on Nov. 20 on a felony warrant accusing him of posting pictures of a naked woman online without her consent.
According to the Nashua Police Department, on May 16, officers received a report from the victim stating that Morse, 31, posted explicit photographs of her on social media.
As a result, Morse has been charged with the nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images.
He was released on $200 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Dec. 18.
Under state law, if convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison, up to five years of probation and a fine of up to $4,000.
Speaker of the House Sherman Packard (R-Londonderry) has already removed Morse from the Education Policy and Administration Committee.
“The allegations outlined here are deeply troubling and demand immediate, serious attention,” said Democratic Leader Alexis Simpson (D-Exeter). “When you hold public office, you don’t get to break the law and just expect your constituents to follow it. Accountability must apply to everyone.”
Morse, a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, has denied the allegations and intends to “fight vigorously” to prove his innocence. He maintained that the arrest stems from his efforts to “change the narrative around education.” Those efforts included filing legislation to ban books in public schools that contain graphic content. In July, Gov. Kelly Ayotte vetoed the legislation.
“Little did we know that this commitment would lead down such a dark path, filled with threats, legal battles and an onslaught of false accusations,” Morse said on GiveSendGo, where he is looking to raise $10,000 to pay for legal services. “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, one where each day has felt like standing at the edge of something unknown but deeply threatening.”
