Rivier Roundup: Men’s hoop pulls away from Emmanuel

NASHUA – The Rivier men’s basketball team fended off Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Emmanuel (Mass.) 98-90 on Saturday afternoon’s Senior Day matchup.

With the result, the Raiders concluded the regular season with a 12-13 record (5-7 GNAC), while the Saints ended the regular season with a 13-12 record (7-5 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams traded chances throughout the opening 20 minutes, with neither side leading by more than six points.

Emmanuel (Mass.) opened the contest with a 4-0 lead before sophomore Matt Youngquist knocked down a jumper at 17:58 to get Rivier on the board.

Youngquist gave the Raiders their first lead, 9-6, of the half at 15:17 with a three-pointer.

Each squad traded chances after being deadlocked at 11-11. First-year Daylen Dalcour completed the three-point play just shy of the midway point of the first half to take a 20-16 lead.

Neither team led by more than two points over three minutes until Danny Adams finished a layup to take a four-point lead with 4:24 remaining. Rivier chipped away at the deficit in the final two minutes of the frame, with senior Robenson Baguidy leading the charge with four points to take a 41-40 lead into the locker room.

After falling behind 49-47 in the first three minutes of the second half, the Raiders completed an 8-0 run that was fueled by a three from Baguidy at 16:27.

A brief 7-0 run by the Saints gave them their first lead, 58-57, since the 17-minute mark of the second half. But Riv junior Theo Briscoe IV caught fire from beyond the arc down the stretch, going a perfect 4-for-4 to help the Raiders push their advantage to 85-76 with 5:08 to play.

Youngquist and senior Izaiah Shaw-Glen sealed the 98-90 victory from the free throw line.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN

Baguidy led the offense with a 28-point, 12-assist double-double, while adding six rebounds…Shaw-Glen and Youngquist each added 19 point outings, with Shaw-Glen recording a career-high 17 rebounds…Dalcour and Brisoce IV finished with 15 and 12 points, respectively, with Dalcour adding eight boards and Brisoce IV going 4-6 from beyond the arc.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

EMMANUEL 83, RIVIER 43

With the loss at the Muldoon Center, the Raiders end the 2025-26 season with a record of 2-23 (2-10 GNAC), while the Saints finish the regular season 19-6 (12-0 GNAC).

Emmanuel (Mass.) opened the game on a 20-0 run over the first 5:17. Sophomore Gianna Donato ended the shutout for Rivier with a layup at the 5:01 mark.

Graduate student Juju Nealy knocked down a triple, followed by junior Emily Coleman hitting a jumper with 1:01 to play in the opening quarter.

The Saints closed the period with a 32-9 lead, shooting 56.5% from the field.

Emmanuel (Mass.) used a 19-2 run to extend the margin to 41 points, their largest lead of the half. A late layup by Donato for the Raiders brought the halftime score to 51-12 in favor of the Saints.

Emmanuel (Mass.) continued its offensive progression, outscoring Rivier 19-14 in the third quarter. Sophomore Hannah Smith and Coleman made back-to-back jump shots to open the quarter for the Raiders.

Junior Erika Fantauzzi and Donanto recorded threes each at the end of the third to cut the deficit to 70-26.

Rivier opened the final period with its best scoring run of the game, an 8-0 stretch, that was capped off by a three from Nealy, that cut the deficit to 73-34 with 7:10 remaining. Emmanuel (Mass.) responded by outscoring the Raiders 10-9 over the final minutes.

Donato led Rivier offensively with 16 points while adding nine rebounds and four steals.Nealy and Coleman followed close behind with eight and seven points respectively. Coleman added a co-team high nine rebounds.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

WORCESTER STATE 3, RIVIER 2

The Raiders dropped their regular season finale in a Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup Saturday night at the Worcester Ice Center.

With the result, the Raiders fell to 16-8-0 (8-4-0 MASCAC), while the Lancers improved to 16-9-0 (10-2 MASCAC). Despite the loss, the Raiders have secured the No. 2 seed and will host No. 3 Salem State this Friday, Feb. 27 for the MASCAC semi-final round, at Conway Arena at 6:50 p.m.

The first 20 minutes of play saw lots of back-and-forth action with neither team able to capitalize to go into the second knotted 0-0.

At the 8:17 mark of the second frame, first-year Lexi Davies put the Raiders ahead on a feed from junior Rebecca McKelvey, on a power-play opportunity.

First-year Chloe Bryda struck late in the period, finishing a feed from classmate Marina Bassett and senior Jillian Hallee to push Rivier’s lead to 2-0 with 1:48 remaining. Worcester St. cut the deficit in half on a power-play goal at the 4:43 mark of the third period.

The Lancers capitalized on another man-advantage opportunity to tie the game at 2-2 with 3:23 remaining in regulation.

Coming out of a Worcester St. timeout, the Lancers buried the go-ahead goal with 26 seconds left on the clock.

The Lancers outshot the Raiders 38-35; junior Taylor Bruno made 35 saves in the outing; Rivier controlled faceoffs 35-28.

MEN’S HOCKEY

WORCESTER STATE 3, RIVIER 2

The Rivier men’s ice hockey team fell to Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponent Worcester St. to conclude their season on Saturday night at Conway Arena.

With the result, the Raiders finish the season 2-22-1 (2-12-0 MASCAC), while the Lancers moved to 10-11-4 (3-8-3 MASCAC).

The Lancers opened scoring at 9:07 into the opening frame. Sophomore Anthony Dalessio leveled the game 1-1 off a setup from first-year Evan Miles and first-year Jacob Bodin at the 18:15 mark.

The Raiders took the lead 2:02 into the second period, thanks to senior Carter Poulin finishing a feed from Miles. But the Lancer found the equalizer late at the 17:35 mark to send the game tied 2-2 going into the final 20 minutes of play.

The Lancers scored the go-ahead goal 7:46 into the third frame.

Despite the Raiders’ last effort to force OT by pulling the goalie with 2:20 left to play, it would not be enough.

The Lancers outshot the Raiders 46-24, while first-year Raider Matt Dore made 43 saves. Miles paced the offense with two points, recording a goal and an assist.
