The New Britain Bees held on to take Game 1 of their best-of-three semifinal series vs. Norwich by a 3-2 count on Monday night before 2,139 at New Britain Stadium.

The other game, Worcester at Vermont, was suspended by rain in Burlington in the fifth inning with the Bravehearts up 8-6. It will be resumed on Tuesday, still in Vermont, at 6:35 p.m. in the fifth.

The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the first on Michael Olander’s sac fly but Norwich tied it in the fifth when C.J. Nolan scored on a wild pitch.

Pitching miscues were the story as the Bees took a 3-1 lead in the eighth when Amto Civitello was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as was Grady Schopps was plunked, forcing in a run to make it 3-1. Sean Connolly took the loss, giving up two runs in 1.2 innings.

Norwich made it interesting with an unearned run in the ninth off Jake Harmony (1-0).

The teams head to Norwich’s Dodd Stadium tonight for Game 2.
