UNH Hockey: Women fall to BC, men bow at UMass

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey fell to Boston College (15-17-1, 13-9-1 HEA) on Friday afternoon at Conte Forum, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Eagles.

The Eagles opened the scoring late in the first period, with goals from Olivia Maffeo at 13:36 and Emma Conner at 16:28 putting Boston College ahead 2-0.

With just under two minutes to play, Aurora Kahlert (Maple Ridge, British Columbia) found Josie Linn (Excelsior, Minn.) by the net with a pass, before the forward skated around the zone, firing on net from the slot through traffic and going bar down, cutting the lead in half.

Boston College regained their two-goal edge midway through the second period, when Sammy Taber fired home on the power-play, making it a 3-1 game.

The Wildcats cut the lead back down 6:41 into the third frame, when Nina Rossi fired a shot from the right face-off circle, beating the traffic in front to make it a 3-2 contest.

The Eagles once again found their two-goal lead with 5:48 left to play on Emma Conner’s second goal of the game, before an empty-netter from Lauren Glaser brought about the final 5-2 score.

MEN’S HOCKEY

UMASS AMHERST 4, UNH 0

The University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team fell to No. 19 UMass on at the Mullins Center in Hockey East action.

The Wildcats fall to 12-16-1 (6-12-1 Hockey East), while the Minutemen improve to 18-11-0 (11-8-0 Hockey East).

The Minutemen took a 2-0 lead with two straight goals to start the first period as Lukas Klecka scored on a one-timer off a pass by Owen Murray just 41 seconds after the opening faceoff, while Larry Keenan increased the lead to 2-0 at 6:08 when he found back of the net on the power play.

The Minutemen made it a 3-0 game at 15:01 when Bo Cosman blasted a slap shot from right faceoff circle for the goal.

At 14:27 of the second period the Wildcats earned a penalty shot, but the attempt by junior alternate captain J.P. Turner was saved by Michael Hrabal to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard.

At 4:07 of the third period, Francesco Dell’Elce scored the fourth goal of the game for UMass as he fired the puck to the upper glove side of the net to make it a 4-0 contest.

Senior goalie Kyle Chauvette of Goffstown recorded 25 saves for the Wildcats, while Hrabal posted 21 saves for the Minutemen.

The Wildcats will conclude the home-and-home series with No. 19 UMass tonight at 7 p.m. at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on NESN and ESPN+
