SAN FRANCISCO – Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald knows now something that the Bill Belichick Patriots always knew.

After winning Super Bowl LX, they now go from the hunters to the hunted.

“We use the term chasing edges here in Seattle. You have to live like that,” Macdonald said. “You can’t be copying anybody else. We want to be on the forefront of things. We know that we’re target No. 1 now.”

He noted that one huge key has been Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier.

“We would not be having this press conference right now if Leslie wasn’t a Seahawk. He was the first person I called when I got the job (two years ago) and hopefully I made it very clear to him that we needed him. He’s just a great compliment to my skillset, to my personality. He’s such a great connector with the players, such a great communicator.”

VRABEL GREETS FANS

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel talked with fans who were on hand at Gillette Stadium when the team returned Monday from Sunday’s Super Bowl LX loss. He mingled with fans, took part in phone photos, etc.

“Obviously we wanted to bring back championships they’re used to,” Vrabel said of the fans. “But we’re just getting started and we’re proud of the guys and appreciate their support.”

GONZALEZ LOOKING TO WORK ON LEADERSHIP

Patriots corner Christian Gonzalez, always soft-spoken and who was probably the best Patriot on the field in Super Bowl LX, said afterward he knows he’s being counted on to be a leader with the Patriots, and is looking to do more of that next year.

“I’ve been trying to find my voice,” he said. “Find my leadership and how I can lead, and everyone knows I am not much of a gather the team up and give them a speech but just finding ways to lead.

” Vrabel has been helping me with that and talking to me about it – trying to be a leader, trying to grow obviously on the field but also off the field as a man, as somebody that people can look to on this team.”

PATS WOODSON HAS SOME ADVICE

Patriots rookie Craig Woodson was all over the field in Super Bowl LX and has advice for players in college right now.

“Just keep working,” he said. “There’s going to be some things that won’t go your way along the journey. Just keep working and keep grinding. Everything you do is not in vain and it’s a rollercoaster but just keep grinding, be the best version of yourself. If you get the chance – take advantage of it.”

What did Vrabel say to the players after?

“Just learn from this,” he said. “There is a lot of people that came out to watch us, there’s a lot of family and friends her. Be with them tonight but this is something we are going to learn from.”

KICKER MEYERS WASN’T THINKING MVP

After kicking five field goals, did Seahawks kicker think during the game that he had a shot at being the Super Bowl MVP?

“No, I mean I write it on my wrist, I just go one for one,” he said. “Whatever kick that is in front of me I just make that my best effort. I put all my hard work all these years and all the offseasons and just put that to work. I truly go one kick at a time. Whatever happens, happens.”

DURDE HAD CONFIDENCE

While Seahawks offensive coordinator is expected to be named as the Las Vegas Raiders new head coach, Seahawks DC Aden Durde isn’t going anywhere, and was confident the sum would be greater than the whole parts of the defense.

“When we came here as a collective of coaches, one of our main focuses were to enhance the players and make them play as well as they possibly can,” he said. “We you have players like Leo (Leonard Williams), Byron (Murphy), Nick (Emmanwori), Spoon (Devon Witherspoon), DLaw (DeMarcus Lawrence), Chena (Uchena Nwosu), D Hall (Derick Hall), once they start playing with great fundamentals, it gives you the ability to do a lot of those things like play the run in split safety, stop explosive plays.

“Suddenly what happens is like (Sunday) is just about rush and covering. We had some good blitzes dialed up and we executed them well, but you saw a time someone had a quick win, they got to the quarterback. At times, they made the quarterback hold the ball and we sacked the quarterback. That collective and that connection as a defense really took us to the next level.”

Much to the Patriots’ chagrin.

FORMER PATRIOT WHITE SHOT IN DOWNTOWN SF

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White, traded to the 49ers by the Patriots early in the season, underwent surgery after being shot in the ankle early Monday morning. The shooting happened hours after the end of the Super Bowl that was played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

“Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco,” the team said in a statement. “He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”

San Francisco police said they responded to a shooting a little after 4 a.m. and found a victim from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers gave aid and called paramedics and said the victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.

“A preliminary investigation revealed a verbal altercation occurred between two groups inside a business,” police said in a statement. “The victim was injured when shots were fired by an unknown suspect. All information is preliminary at this time, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.”
