SUPER BOWL LX NOTES: Patriots vow loss will fuel fire

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Feb 9, 2026

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -The New England Patriots vow that they will become stronger after their 29-13 Super Bowl LX loss at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks.

“That’s what fuels you,” Patriots quarterback Drake Maye said. “The guys in the locker room will use this as fuel. … Motivation to get back here. Not have this feeling, and have what they’re (the Seahawks) feeling out there.”

“I’m proud of the guys, I’m proud of this team,” Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez said. “I’m proud to call them my brothers. We just came up short.

“All year nobody believed in us, nobody thought we were going to be anything. To make it to where we were, that’s a testament to our work, we came up short. It’s not the end of the world. Proud of the guys, and we’ll get right back to it.”

“You let oursef feel that pain,” linebacker Robert Spillane said. “You do everything you can in the off-season, whatever it takes to get to this point again, and to end up winning the game.

I know this has only made the crack in my shoulder bigger and the pain in my heart a little bit stronger. I’m going to work harder than I ever have this off-season, I know that to be true. And I know every guy in this organization will do the same.”

“Hate the result,” Patriots corner Marcus Jones said. “But at the end of the day you know we have to use this as fuel for next year.”

WALKER MVPE

Seahawks back Kenneth Walker III was the Super Bowl MVP with 135 yards on the ground. He’s the first running back to win the MVP award since Denver’s Terrell Davis in Super Bowl XXXII.

“Our run defense was great all year, and unfortunately it wasn’t tonight,” Spillane said.

SEAHAWK SEEDS PLANTED

“This thing started last year,” Seahawks lineman Leonard Williams said. “We couldn’t stop the run, and then I came.

“And then we got into this year, and I knew it was special. My defense, I’ll match up against anybody. You put any offense out there against us, and I like our odds.”

MAYE TOOK INJECTION

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye’s shoulder was definitely an issue for him throughout the postseason, although he said last night he was fine.

“My shouder feels – I shot it up, so not much feeling,” he said. “It was good to go, and I was alright.”

HOLLINS HANDCUFFED

Patriots eccentric wide receiver Mack Hollins arrived at Levi Stadium in handcuffs. Literally.

He handcuffs on both his hands and legs and wore a Hannibal Lecter mask plus a red outfit – similar to what Anthony Hopkins wore playing Lecter in the movie.

SUPER BOWL INACTIVES

There were no surprsises for the Patriots in their inactives: OT Marcus Bryant, OG Caedan Wallace, LB Bradyn Swanson, CB Kobee Minor, WR Efton Chism III, and TE C.J. Dippre. Tommy DeVito was the emergency third QB.

For the Seahawks, the emergency third QB was Jalen Milroe. Fullback Robbie Ouzts, LB Chaz Surratt, LB Jared Ivey, tackle-guard Mason Richman, TE Nick Kallerup and NT Brandon Pili were inactive.

Patriots linebackers Rober Spillane and Harold Landry, both limited and questionable all week with ankle and knee woes, were active. Spillane started.
