The Boston Red Sox are reportedly adding multi-purpose veteran pitcher Chase Anderson to their roster.
Multiple reports Saturday say the Sox have agreed to a one-year deal with Anderson, who has pitched with seven teams over a 10-year big-league career. Last year he was with Tampa Bay and Colorado, going x-x with a 5.42 earned run average in 19 appearances. Reports say he could start or relieve for the Red Sox.
Anderson pitched five scoreless innings for the Rays early last season before being designated for assignment. He then went to Colorado, where he went 1-6, 5.75 with 62 strikeouts over 81.1 innings. However, he gave up home runs on three consecutive pitches in a game against the Angels, and it was the second time in his career that’s happened.
Anderson signed a minor league contract last month with the Pirates but became a free agent again when he didn’t make the Major League roster.
