HS ROUNDUP: Bridge belongs to South; HB nine wins again

The Bridge is going South.

As in Nashua High School South, and as in Battle of the Bridge. That’s because the Panthers boys tennis team topped Nashua North on Tuesday to clinch the battle. With South’s softball win as well, it’s 7-2-1 in favor of the Panthers with girls tennis being rescheduled to Thursday.

That and a busy Tuesday await your sports-craved eyes:

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 7, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Panthers evened their record at 5-5, taking five of six singles to clinch the win. Ayaan Chalishazar (9-7), Jerry Primo (8-3), Brian Grove (8-3) Akash Kumar (8-2) and Akshar Ganta (8-0) all picked up singles wins.

The Titans lone win in singles was by Conner McInerney at No. 1, 8-3. Brady O’Connor and McInerney teamed up at No. 1 doubles for an 8-5 win.

North has struggled, now 2-8 with six straight defeats. The Titans fell the other day to Concord 6-3 with McInerney and Gordon Graham getting singles wins.

South hosts Bedford today while North is at Keene on Thursday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 9, KEENE 0

It was a clean sweep for the Cards with singles winners being Jack Kostansek (8-2), Evan Deyak (8-3), Jonny Perrott (8-1), Max Moynihan (8-0), Jaxon Deyak (8-0) and Maxx Lizotte (8-0).

Kostansek/Perrott (8-2), Moynihan/Lizotte (8-1) and Steinruck/Tang (8-0).

Now 6-5, BG hosts Pinkerton on Thursday, weather permitting.

GOFFSTOWN 6, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3

The Cavs haven’t been able to find the weak link in the Grizzlies as they lost to them for the second time in four matches in a rematch of last year’s Division II finals.

Winners for HB yesterday were John Torpey at No. 2 singles (9-7), and the top two doubles teams of Arjun Inakollu/Sam Anthony (8-6) and John Torpey/Dylan Legrow (8-6).

The Grizzlies remain unbeaten while HB , which is at Merrimack on Friday is 9-2.

MERRIMACK 6, KEENE 3

The Tomahawks got a big road win over Kennett, taking four of six singles and two of three doubles.

Singles winners were Leon Rossman (8-1), Jeremy Nigen (9-7), Connor Miner (8-4), and Ben Da Silva (8-6).

Rossman/Nigen (8-1) and Drew Bergen/Pat Macisaac (8-4) also won.

Now 8-4 in Division II, the ‘Hawks are at Souhegan today.

BASEBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6, JOHN STARK 2

The Cavaliers continued their winning ways (10-1, three straight) with Thomas Howie getting a two-run single, Connor Gryniewicz with a sac fly and an RBI walk, and Quinn Imbrogno (3 for 3) with an RBI double.

Ian Sinclair got the win, allowing three hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking three. Marco Bergskaug finished up allowing two hits while fanning two.

The Cavs have a big road tilt on Friday at St. Thomas of Dover.

BEDFORD 12, ALVIRNE 2

The Broncos gave up an early grand slam and dropped to 1-11, now in a tough hole to climb out of for any tourney hopes.

Brody Buja took the loss, while Jasper Workman pitched well in relief. The Broncos two runs were solo homers by Memphis Beach and Matt Bebris.

The Broncos take on Spaulding today.

SOFTBALL

JOHN STARK 18, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 14

The Cavs (0-8) kept the vibes positive as they battled the Generals tooth and nail on the road and used smart and aggressive baserunning to keep the game within reach.

Lindsey Emmons and Madelyn Sinclair (both with honers), Nina Giguere, Vanessa Ferrelli, Olivia Chakarian and Megan Eckman (double) paced HB’s offense while defensively Kendall Dunn (sliding catch in right), Brooklynn Olszewski in center, Emma Flynn (assist on out at third), and the fielder-catcher combo of Madelyn Sinclair-Megan Eckman got an out at home.

HB is at Campbell on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

BEDORD 26, NASHUA NORTH 6

The Titans got two goals by Nick Wilkinson and a goal each by Nico Bottari, Jared Gauthier, Ricky McKenzie and Jack Russin-Morgan (first varsity).

Josh Parsons had 12 saves in the Titans net. Now 2-9, North is at Hollis Brookline today at 4 p.m.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 17, SPAULDING 5

Speaking of the Cavs, they were on fire at home to improve to 4-6, led by Sam Petrella’s five goals and three assists.

Mike O’Hearn (four goals, assist), Evan Bertrand (two goals, first of his career), plus Bennett Torgersen, Luke Kinney, Bryce Cote, and Oliver Spencer all scored.

Levi Mitchelland Matteo Caralho split time playing well in goal while Cam Nichols, Coltern Herrera and Hunter Knight played well at midfield.

MERRIMACK 9, CONCORD 7

Cayden Dine led the ‘Hawks (7-4) with five goals and an assist, while Sean Anderson scored two goals with an assist.

Shea Scott (three assists), Josh Kahn (assist), Gavin Hickey (goal, assist) and Gabe Gorman (1-0) also contributed.

Mason Tremblay had 11 saves in goal.

Merrimack is at Bishop Guertin on Thursday.
