Silver Knights waiting to prove they’ve turned a corner

NASHUA — Have the Silver Knights turned the corner?
They didn’t get a chance to show that, thanks to Wednesday’s rainout with New Britain at Holman Stadium, but we’ll know soon enough.
The washout gave the Knights another day to bask in the limelight of Tuesday night’s come-from=behind walk off win in 10 innings over Pittsfield, and they’re anxious to get going again.
Nashua is at Norwich tonight (7:00) and Westfield on Friday night (6:30) before coming home Saturday to face Pittsfield in the first game of a home at home at 6 pm. at Holman Stadium. No makeup date was announced as of yet for last night’s rainout.
“When we went to Worcester (last week) and lost 9-8, there was a different vibe in the clubhouse,” Silver Knights manager Kyle Jackson said. “A lot of tension was just gone. It was ‘OK, let’s start doing things the right way.'”
The Silver Knights went on to win two games, their hitting has improved. “The offense finally caught up to the pitching (on Tuesday), which was awesome.”
“As long as we take team at-bats, team approaches, everybody trying to stay within themselves and what they can do and trusting the guy next to you,” Knight Lucas Carmichael said, “it’s all going to play out at the end of the season. I have no doubt.”
Jackson will settle for one game at a time, beginning tonight and Friday on the road.
ROTATION TAKING SHAPE
Depending on how the rainout impacts pitching plans, one would hope it still may look like the departing Wyatt Scotti will pitch his final Silver Knights game on Saturday at Holman, hopefully giving fans one last look at a pitcher who has gone 1-0, 1.55 and was looking like the ace of the staff. He’s leaving to join Harwich of the prestigious Cape Cod League.
“It’ll be four starts from him, it’s better than zero,” Jackson said. “He’s a key component to your starting rotation, but you’re not going to tell a kid ‘Don’t go to the Cape.’ It’d be better for him to still be here, but…”
Right now Jackson has Griffin Young, Nick Guarino, Aidan Crowley, and Jack Beauchesne as his mainstays. “Aidan Crowley has thrown the ball really well, Beauchesne is throwing it well. Everything is coming together. We just have to elimninate the six run innings.”
NO TITLE FOR THE DOM
Former Silver Knight Dom Keegan didn’t get to bask in the limelight of the ultimate college baseball prize, an NCAA Division I National Championship, as Mississippi State routed Keegan’s Vanderbilt squad, 9-0 in the deciding third game of the CWS Finals.
Still, the idea of having a Silver Knight who was a key component of last year’s title team playing for a Division I national championship was great for the franchise, Jackson said the other day.
“It’s exciting, I watchd him on TV,” said Jackson. “I’ve never had the opportunity because I didn’t do it (Jackson signed with the Red Sox, skipping college baseball). But see these guys succeed as a team, how they play for each other, it’s great. He’s a great kid, great player, too.”
FISHER CATS ALSO RAINED OUT
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Portland Sea Dogs Double A squads were also doused by rain in Manchester, and will play a doubleheader on Thursday night at Delta Dental Stadium, with two seven-inning games starting at 5 p.m
