HS Roundup: Merrimack baseball, softball win; BG boys lax rolls

The local high school spring sports season exploded on the scene in full force on Monday with a lot of highs and lows, ups and downs. Here’s a look at a good chunk of Monday’s local results:

BASEBALL

CONCORD 2, BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cardinals were shutout by Concord as the season opens up. Ben Geiger pitched five innings allowing three hits and two unearned runs in the loss. Gavin Santos collected two hits and a stolen base. BG hosts Trinity on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 9, TIMBERLANE 3

The Tomahawks used a seven run seventh inning to surpass the Owls on the road. Logan Hoag allowed three runs, three hits and struck out 12 in six and one-third inning. Zach Reteyled the way with a double and three RBIs with Kyle Brander and Evan Sousa added two hits apiece. Merrimack hosts Goffstown on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 5, DERRYFIELD 4

With game tied at four in the bottom of the seventh, Braydon White crushed a solo home run to left field to give the Cougars the win. Michael Grace sparked the offense with a three run homer in the first inning and finished with three RBIs.

Aidan Kepple added a RBI double in the fifth to tie the game. Grace pitched six innings before Brady Marcotte tossed a scoreless inning in relief. Campbell visits Stevens on Wednesday.

GOFFSTOWN 10, ALVIRNE 4

The Broncos open the season with a loss to the Grizzlies on the road. Jameson Krueger led the offense with a homerun and three RBIs. Matt Bebris and Luke Norse each had multiple hits. Alvirne hosts Concord on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

PINKERTON 8, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers showed some struggles as they lose to the Astros. Cara Leblond led South with one RBI and Maliyah Richer-Valentin had two hits. Pinkerton had a five run fourth inning, South hosts Exeter on Tuesday.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL-MEMORIAL 11, NASHUA NORTH 6

The Titans fall short in a hard fought effort. Maycie Hudson had two hits at the plate. Lexie Ackroyd, Taina Anaya and Elin Maffee each drove in one run. North visits Pinkerton on Friday.

CONCORD 13, BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cards had a tough start to the season despite Chloe Sellers going 2 for 2 with a single and a double. BG will host Windham on Thursday at Elliott Field.

BOW 16, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3

The Cavs had a rough day on the road to open up the season. Madelyn Sinclair (three RBIs), Jenna O’Connor and Lindsey Emmons each recorded two hits. Sarah Seddon threw 29 pitches, allowing five walks and a base hit.Freshman Brooklynn Olszewski threw 3.2 innings in relief and had a strikeout.

Emma Flynn at shortstop and Sophia Figueroa in right field played well defensively. HB hosts Pelham on April 22.

MILFORD 9, CAMPBELL 7

The Spartans squeeze by the Cougars in the home opener. Mya Coombs (two runs) and Teagan Goldstein (two RBIs) both had two hits. Arabelle Danforth and Livi Mazzeo each crossed the twice. Mazzeo struck out 11 and gave up four hits in the circle. Milford hosts Pelham and Campbell hosts Coe-Brown on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 4, TIMBERLANE 3

Ashley Senecal knocked in the game winner in the eighth for the Tomahawks. Marissa Nelson pitched a complete game allowing four hits and striking out 10. Ashlyn Simmons and Cam Bellen each had two hits. Nelson and Liv Burke added one hit apiece. Bayleigh Robichaud took two home runs away from the Owls. Merrimack hosts Goffstown on Tuesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 18, LONDONDERRY 5

Sean McGarry (five goals) and Jack Redfern (four goals, one assist) led the Cardinals on offense in their win over the Lancers. Tyler McLeod had 10 caused turnovers and two assists, Owen King scored three goals and Hugh Roark was 70 percent on face-offs and added a goal. BG visits St. John’s Prep (MA) on Thursday.

NASHUA SOUTH 16, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL-CENTRAL 1

Owen Roy started the season strong tallying sis goals in the Panthers win. Others making contributions in the win were Grant Imbeault (four goals, assist), Cody Jackson (three goals, two assists), Tyler Benzekri (goal, four assists), Max Signoroni (goal, two assists), Brendan Skelley (goal, two assists) and Joe Kudla (two assists). South hosts Windham on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 15, NASHUA NORTH 6

Shea Scott (three goals, two assists) and Sean Anderson (four goals, assist) led the way for the Tomahawks in their win over the Titans. Josh Kahn (two goals, assist), Gabe Gorman (two goals, assist), Cayden Dine (goal, three assists), Austin Kovaliv (three goals, assist), Gavin hickey (assist), Trevor Shorette (assist) and Mason Tremblay (13 saves) contributed in the win. North’s Nick Wilkinson scored two goals, Gavin Dugan and Ricky Mckenzie each had one and Josh Parsons made 20 saves. Merrimack visits Hollis Brookline on Tuesday and North hosts Dover on Friday.

COE-BROWN 14, MILFORD 1

Josh Clark scored his first varsity goal with six seconds left in the Spartans loss. Milford hosts Plymouth on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 6, SOUHEGAN 5

Tyler Breton tallied a hat trick in the Cougars close win over the Sabers. Evan Molino scored two goals, Matt Decarth had one goal and Will O’Brien made 10 saves.

Souhegan had good performances from Nate Hill (two goals, assist), Mason Mobley (goal, assist), Jud Harris (goal), Liam Bacon (goal) and Sean Reardon (11 saves). Campbell scored the game winner with 8.7 seconds to go in the game. Campbell visits Hopkinton and Souhegan visits Portsmouth on Wednesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 16, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 3

Carly Benzreki and Lexi McGuire each had a hat trick in the Panthers win. Others playing well in the win were Briley Landsteiner (two goals, assist), Gemma Williams (two goals, assist), Wylie Hart (goal, assist), Oliva St. Hilaire (goal), Nicole DeJesus (goal), Nitzann Alkalay, Isabel Picanco (goal) and Maddie Langer (goal). Karina Santana, Hailey Cote and Bella Hwalek led the defense. Emma Herlihy and CJ Oro spilt time in net. South visits Salem on Wednesday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 13, LONDONDERRY 9

Lola Dumont and the Cardinals got off to a great start as sh had eight goals, one assist, nine draw controls, three ground ball pickups and a caused turnover. Kaylee Cruikshank scored her first career goal and had four assists. Charlotte Accomando (goal, assists, two draws), Bella Dawson (goal), Sam Butler (first career goal) and Cam Leighton (goal) also contributed offensively.

On defense Ava Brennan had three caused turnovers and a ground ball pickup in front of goalie Emma Smith (seven saves).

CAMPBELL 16, PEMBROKE 11

Zoe Bourque collected nine goals and four assists as the Cougars ran away with the game in the fourth quarter. Lilli Wilson tallied six goals and an assist. Campbell hosts Pelham on Wednesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 8, LONDONDERRY 1

The Cards swept singles and were on their way to their first win of the season.

Winners included Anna Perrott (8-4), Georgie Howell (8-5), Jaclyn Kriscuras (8-3), Lydia Miller (8-2), Dayana Cottito and Ainsley Flood (both 8-0. In doubles, it was Howell/Miller (8-2) and Cottito/Flood (8-0).

SALEM 7, NASHUA NORTH 2

North managed wins by Aleena Reth in singles and Reth/Addie Bueno in doubles.

BOYS TENNIS

SALEM 8, NASHUA NORTH 1

The 1-2 Titans’ lone win came from the No. 2 doubles team of Ben Husson and Connor Ducey, 8-1.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

SOUHEGAN 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Sabers defeated the Cavs 25-23, 25-12, 25-21. HB’s Danigan had 15 assists, Jacob Toupin had seven kills and Zac Wu played well on defense. Souhegan hosts Salem on Wednesday and HB hosts Portsmouth on Thursday.
