JUNE 1, 1965 – “Led by the Demers brothers – John and Mike – Nashua High’s track team kept its unbeaten record intact by topping a field of 13 teams in the Keene Rotary Club meet Saturday afternoon.

“… The Demers boys had their best meet of the season as John set a new meet and school record in the javelin throw with a heave of 205 feet, 8-1/2 inches.

“… As for brother Mike, he equaled the meet record of 15.1 seconds in the 120-yard high hurdles and placed third in the 18-yard low hurdles.”

JUNE 1, 1985 – “Former Telegraph managing editor Mike Shalhoup carved a big notch in his golfing career belt yesterday by scoring a hole-in-one at Nashua County Club.

“Shalhoup, a longtime golfer and NCC member, watched his 5-wood shot on the par 3, 145-yard second hole hit the front of the green and go straight across the green and fall into the cup.”

Shalhoup also served as the Telegraph’s sports editor. It’s a safe bet to assume he was the premier golfer of the sports editing alumni.

JUNE1, 1994 – ” ‘Don’t let the devil get ya,’ is the cry the Nashua High School lacrosse team often hears from its coach, John Connolly.

“The ‘devil,’ Connolly said, is fatigue. On a blistering hot day, the Panthers heard that a lot in their NHIAA preliminary-round game against St. Thomas Aquinas of Dover. But it wasn’t a problem as the locals kept their legs and their season alivetopping the Saints 7-3.”

JUNE 1, 2019 – “The record of 1-15 felt like a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

That was two years ago for many of the Souhegan High School boys volleyball players who were on the floor for a 3-0 preliminary-round home win over Bishop Guertin on Friday.

“It means a lot,” Saber senior Seth Facey said of the win. “I’d never played in a playoff game, never even won one. It means so much to get a good team together and do this.”

Thus, for the No. 8 Sabers, their 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 win over the No. 9 Cards (7-10) was a signature win – no matter what happens when they move on to face No. 1 Windham (15-1) in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
