It’s Super Sunday. Which also means it’s the day for the NHIAA Division I and II Boys and Girls Track championships at Plymouth State University.
Last year the Miford High School boys team tasted glory, and perhaps Souhegan could have a shot at this year’s boys crown in Division II.
Division I locals, while there may be a few individual winners, have the goal of being in the top five in both genders.
Division II starts at 9 a.m., with Division I starting at 2 p.m. The 4×800 relays and high jumps have already taken place last week at UNH.
Here’s a look at how everything coud pan out:
DIVISION I BOYS
Pinkerton is the clear favorite, but both North and South are hoping for a top five finish.
“Pinkerton is loaded,” South coach Doug Booth said. “Nashua North has a lot of talented kids so I’d say Pinkerton and North are my top two. … I ‘d like to say that Nashua South is a top five team. We’re not as deep as we’ve been in past years.”
North has already finished third in the 4×800. North’s Bunhour Chea is ranked third in the 1000, as is the Titans’ 4×200 relay team, but North’s 4×400 is the top seed. Titan Sam Nardone is ranked second in the long jump and Nick Jurczak is the top seed in the shot put while Nashua South’s Penny Sawyer is seeded third.
Titan Gavin Suchecki finished fourth in the high jump already at 6-00.00.
Alvirne is seeded second in the 4×200. Bishop Guertin’s Ethan Fischer is the top seed in the 3000 meter run, and the Cards were second in last weekend’s 4×800 in 8:20.97.
Merrimack’s Kaiden Okowuga is the state high jump champ at 6-04.00. The Tomhawks also have three of the top four seeds in the long jump, led by top seed Austin Cassetty.
DIVISION I GIRLS
Could it be Pinkerton again? Or Bedford? Maybe Exeter.
“I would love to be in the top five but I don’t think that’s in the cards for us this year,” North’s Renee Archer said. “Small squad this year.”
North freshman Abby Azevedo already finished third in the high jump last weekend at 5-02.00.North’s Rosie Neveu is seeded fourth in the 600 and the Titans are ranked third in the 4×400.
Nashua South’s Diamond Perry is seeded third in the long jump and Emma Millette fourth.
Bishop Guertin’s Zoe Coler is the fifth seed in the 1500 and Jaylyn Paul fourth in the 3000. The Cards took fourth in the 4×800 relay in 9:51.74.
Alvirne’s Bella Hatcher is ranked third in the shot put.
DIVISION II BOYS
Souhegan will tangle likely with Coe-Brown for the title. The Sabers already have a state champion as Brody Smith won the high jump at 6-4.50. Coe-Brown got points with a second in the 4×800
Smith is a second seed in the 300 meter dash, while the Sabers are ranked No. 1 in the 4×200 relay
Hollis Brookline’s Jacob Hoesch is the top seed in the 600.
Milford’s Grant Skorupan is the top seed in the 1500 and third seed in the 1000.
DIVISION II GIRLS
Oyster River is the overwhelming favorite, but here are some potential local top seeds:
Hollis Brookline’s Grace Dow is tied as the top seed in the 55 dash and is second seeded in the 55 hurdles. Molly Reardon is No. 2 in the 1000 meter run.
Souegan’s Samantha Swanbon is the top seed in the 600, while Ori Dart is the fourt seed in the 300. Souhegan is seeded second in the 4×400 relay.
Milford’s Zoe Rick is seeded fifth in the shot put.
