Local Roundup: Saint Chris, McCarthy win city titles; North, South boys track shine

A busy local sports Saturday not only involved local high school teams but also some middle school ones as the ninth annual Nashua Boys and Girls Midde School Basketball Championships were held at Nashua High School North’s Titans Gym.

The winners? Well you’ll have to read on to see:

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL\

NASHUA CITY TOURNAMENT

McCARTHY GIRLS 45, SAINT CHRISTOPHER 34

Ellery Zebrak was the story in this one, as she scored 27 points to lead McCarthy, spurred on by five 3-pointers. Ava Lavine added 14 while Saint Chris was led by Adrianna Slocumb’s 15 points.

SAINT CHRISTOPHER BOYS 55, PENNICHUCK 39

The Raiders, who trailed 29-26 at halftime but pulled away in the second half, were led by Daniel St. Jean’s 20 points and Sammy Canaway’s 13.

Pennichuck’s Daunte Sisay took game-high honors with 23 points.

BOYS HOCKEY

BOW 4, NASHUA NORTH-SOUTH 2

Brendon Doughty and Thomas Dratch got goals for Nashua, with assists on the day going to Connor Prunier, Brendan Skelley and Callen Cullity.

Anthony Venezia played well in goal for the Knights but his teammates had a hard time solving Bow freshman netminder Travis Ingalls.

Now 1-8, the Knights are at Portsmouth-Newmarket-Sanborn on Wednesday.

WRESTLING

LONDONDERRY 60, NASHUA SOUTH 23

At the Londonderry Super Quad, the Panthers got a win at 126 by Robert Signor (technical fall 16-0), and three forfeits.

LONDONDERRY 60, NASHUA NORTH 24

TheTitans at the same event got a win from Sebastioan Ochoa at 126 (pin), Caleb Smith at 138 (pin) and two forfeits.

LONDONDERRY 45, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 35

The Cavs got multi non-forfeit wins: Scout Crea at 126 (15-0 tech fall), Dylan Orr at 138 (pin), Jacob Critchfield at 165 (pin), and Gabriel McGrath at 190 (pin).

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

NORTH BOYS FIRST, GIRLS FOURTH

In the boys meet at UNH, the Titans scored 82 points, edging Pinkerton (78) as the only real team competition.

North got wins by Jacob Griffin the 55 hurdles (8.28), Bunhour Chea in the 600 (1:30.90), Cole Burns in the 1000 (2:44.69), Gavin Suchecki in the high jump (6-03.00),

The Titan 4×160 relay team of Suchecki, Kobe Perry, Adriel Gonzalez and Yaxiel Vazquez won in 1:18.97. North also won the 4×400 relay in 3:44.15 (Vazquez, Sam Noardone, Suchecki and Ryan Hutchins).

In the girls meet, the Titans were fourth (42) behind winner Exeter (74.75), Pinkerton (73.75) and Bedford (48.5).

Abigail Azevedo led the way with a win in the high jump in 5-03.00, while Allie Dandeneau took first in the long jump (16-04.50).

SOUTH BOYS ROLL, GIRLS THIRD

The Panthers totaled 105 points in the morning session at Phillips Exeter, 54 points ahead of the field. Winners included Isaiah Rodriguez in the 600 in 1:27.67,

South won two relays. The 4×200 relay was first in 1:37.94 (Ethan Reevs, Jeramiah Agbo, Preston Bois and Ryan Jansen), and the foursome of Rodriguez, Andrew Thibeault, Pranav Dasari and Matthew Motherway won the 4×800 in 8:32.60. South was second in the 4×400.

Bois won the high jump at 5-11.00, was second in the long jump and Kayden Doubleday took the shot put at 42-06.50.

Milford’s Grant Skorupan was second in the 1500.

In the girls meet, South was third (37), just ahead of Milford (34). Oyster River (71) won with Gilford (42) second.

South won the 4×400 reay in 4:25.69 (Lyla Ayi, Emma Millette, Auden King and Ariana Marengo).

Milford won the 4×800 (Arabella Boyd, Rylee Coates, Evangeline Grochaa and Rachel Sixon) in 11:16.00.

Milford’s Ryee Coates was second in the 300,Rachel Sixon second in the 1000 and Zoe Rick second in the shot put.

Souhegan’s Hannah Stone was third in the high jump.

ALVIRNE, BG BOYS SECOND, HB GIRS THIRD

In the afternoon session at Phillips Exeter, the Bronco and Cardinal boys were tied at 44, well behind first place/host Phillips Exeter. Merrimack was sixth (27).

Alvirne’s Joey Marcotte won the 55 hurdes in 7.90. Shane Plumley was second in the 600. The Broncos foursome of Michael Landmesser, Marcotte, Jaden Taylor and Plumley won the 4×200 relay n 1:33.82.

Bishop Guertin won the 4×400 relay (Sam Prescott, Liam Ireland, Will Moores and Ethan Fischer) in 3:37.84.

BG’s Tyler Parshay was second and Jacob Parshay third in the 55 meters.

Merrimack’s Kaiden Okowuga won the high jump at 6-01.00.

In the girls meet, HB totaled 38 for third, behind Portsmouth (58.5) and Coe-Brown (50). Bishop Guertin was sixth at 31.

Molly Reardon led the way with a win in the1000 (3:09.63) and was part of the winning 4×200 relay (1:54.11) along with Livia Ward, Adrienne Thibault and Grace Dow.

Dow was second in the 55 hurdles and third in the 55 dash.

BG’s Anna Sinclair was second in the 1000 and Zoe Coler same in the 1500. The Cards were second in the 4×400 relay. Merrimack’s Ella Taylor, Desiree Kandel, Zosia Yellin and Megan McWhirter were third in the 4×800.
