Cardinals pool their efforts for great season opener
NASHUA — The Bishop Guertin swim team picked up a win its season opener ths past weekend at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua.
The Cards boasted five first place finishes, six second places, and three thirds. Two freshmen, Vivian Carlton and Kyle Dos Santos, took home four of the golds. Carlton qualified for States in both her 200 Individual Medley and her 100 Butterfly, and Dos Santos qualified in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke. Another States qualifier was senior captain Stuart Jensen in the 50 Freestyle.
Bringing a first place finish was junior captain Addison Wilson in the 500 Freestyle, out touching second place by only a quarter of a second Also achieving personal bests were senior captain Ava Hamernik in the 100 Breaststroke, sophomore Dominic Calvanese 100 Breaststroke, and Gunnar Pelletier in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
BG divers had a strong showing with four divers competing. Sophomores Dominic Calvanese and Drake Jenson came in second and third, respectively in the boys event. In the girls event junior Nicolette Carlton came in second place, just shy of both the first place spot and just shy of the BG team diving record, while freshman newcomer Bella Huber came in fourth place.
