While the area’s Division I home teams triumphed on the first night of the NHIAA Division I girls basketball tourney, the same couldn’t be said for the road clubs.
No, it was a tough night for both Nashua North and Alvirne as their seasons end. Here’s a look:
DIVISON I PRELIMS
NO. 2 BEDFORD 64. NO. 15 NASHUA NORTH 45
Despite being heavy underdogs, the Titans kept things respectable throughout at Bedford.
“The girls played well,” North coach Curt Dutilley said. “Down 13 at the half, just gave up too many free throws on second chance rebounds.”
Alaina Small had 16 points to lead North, while Angie King had five 3-pointers for 15 points. Lilly Small added 12.Sarah Muir led the Bulldogs with 19 points.
The Titans wrap things up at 8-11, while Bedford (17-2) now hosts No. 10 Salem in the quarters on Thursday. Salem bested No. 7 Manchester Central-West 39-24 last night.
NO. 1 CONCORD CHRISTIAN 54, NO. 16 ALVIRNE 29
The Broncos couldn’t stay with the Kingsmen, who also beat them by 25 just over a week ago. They trailed 27-6 after eight minutes and it was too steep of a hill to climb
At the same time, despite finishing 6-13, Alvirne started the season 2-9 and the postseason looked like a pipedream. Lexi Floyd led Alvirne with eight points.
The No. 1, 18-1 Kingsmen will now host No. 8 Bishop Guertin in a quarterfinals rematch from a year ago.
