The first fairly busy day of the high school fall sports season was one of highs and lows.

Some highs: the Nashua North girls soccer team started off with a shutout win, the Souhegan field hockey team dominated, and the Bishop Guertin, Alvirne and Wilton-Lyndeborugh boys won their soccer openers.

The lows: A well-played but tough 1-0 loss for the South girls vs. Bedford, and tough ones on the road for the Alvirne girls and North boys.

Let’s take a look:

GIRLS SOCCER

NASHUA NORTH 2, HANOVER 0

Alli Frye had two goals, the first on a well-placed assist from Abby Acevedo early on. The Titans controlled the pace, moved the ball well, and most important, their defense played well in front of goalie Kathleen Schreiner for the shutout.

BEDFORD 1, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Bulldogs scored seven minutes in on a deflected corner kick, and that was it as the Panthers played the visitors even the rest of the way.

South keeper Corinne Rivera was outstanding in goal with defensive help from Kendal Reni and Carly Benzekri. Auden King, Ella Bois and Julia Stutz played well at midfield for the Panthers.

DOVER 3, ALVIRNE 0

The Broncos got off to a tough start on the season but got a good game from embattled keeper Abbie Kowalski. Alvirne’s defense battled vs. a persistent Green Wave attack.

BOYS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, EXETER 2

The Cards made the most of penalty kicks as Ryan Neary’s PK was the game-winner, and Andrew Klyop put in a rebound from a saved penalty kick. Will Barba also scored for BG.

Beau Boughter had five saves while Josh Corriveau, Trenton Cormier, and Neary had assists. Corriveau controlled midfield for BG.

ALVIRNE 2, DOVER 1

The Broncos enjoyed a comeback on goals by Alex Drown and Antohny Branco, with assists to Connor Tilton and Colin Lechner.

HANOVER 5, NASHUA NORTH 2

It was a tough opener on the road for the Titans, playing their first game under new head coach Thomas Prentice. Anthony Ciraso and Caleb Gelineau got the North goals.

North will try for that first win on Tuesday vs. Portsmouth at Stellos Stadium.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 5, COLEBROOK 1

The new-look Warriors got off to a great start with two goals by Tommaso Alboroghetti, and single tallies by Korey Begley, Nate Gill and Vito Anzalone.

Goalkeeper Jason Caragher also played well in net.

FIELD HOCKEY

SOUHEGAN 6, HANOVER 1

The Sabers cruised in their opener as Carlett Lecolst and Abbey Gray each had a pair of goals and Mariellah Dart and Ori Dart (penalty stroke) each had a goal.

Ella Normandin and both Darts each had an assist, while Amelia Warecki had eight saves in goal.
