Rivier Roundup: Baseball gets first win; men’s lax now 4-0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Rivier baseball team defeated non-conference opponent Delaware Valley, 10-6, on Tuesday afternoon at Crosley Field to secure its first victory of the 2026 season!

With the result, the Raiders improved to 1-3, while the Aggies dropped to 5-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Aggies jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before the Raiders got on the board in the fourth inning.

After a base hit and a stolen base, a balk moved senior Dylan Aliberti to third, and he raced home on a wild pitch to spark the Raiders.

Rivier cut the deficit to two in the fifth after three consecutive walks loaded the bases. Aliberti ripped a single up the middle, driving in senior Owen Medlock and junior Colton Colleran to make it 5-3.

The Raiders kept the momentum going in the sixth as junior Liam Stott reached on an error, followed by first-year Ian McDonald, who doubled down the right-field line. Both advanced on a passed ball, bringing Stott home to make it 5-4.

Medlock then drilled a ground-rule double to left field, scoring McDonald to even the game at 5-5.

Still with no outs, first-year Kian Littlefield drew a walk and stole second. With two Raiders in scoring position, junior Nathan Innerfield launched a deep ball to right field, driving in both runners to give Rivier a 7-5 lead.

The Raiders added insurance in the seventh. Stott led off with a base hit, and McDonald followed with a double, while Medlock drew a walk to load the bases. Littlefield delivered an RBI single to push the lead to 8-5.

McDonald later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-5.

Junior Sebastien Reis capped the inning with a sacrifice fly that brought Medlock home, extending the Raiders’ lead to 10-5.

The Aggies added one more run late, but Rivier held on for the 10-6 victory.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN

Sophomore John Horgan made the start, pitching 2.1 innings while facing 12 batters and recording two strikeouts.

Junior Chris Volino earned the win, tossing 4.1 innings and striking out five batters. Senior Ty Baker closed out the final two innings, adding one strikeout to seal the victory.

Aliberti led the offense with three hits, a run scored, and two RBI.

Medlock went 1-for-4 with two walks, scoring three runs, and driving in one RBI.

UP NEXT

The Raiders are back in action for a non-conference contest against SUNY Canton on Thursday at the Polo Grounds in Myrtle Beach, S.C. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

SOFTBALL

RIVIER DROPS TWO

The Rivier softball team dropped a pair of games at the Space Coast Sports Complex, falling 7-1 to Muskingum in the morning contest before suffering a 7-1 setback to Baldwin Wallace later in the day in Melbourne, Fla.

With the results, the Raiders moved to 0-4 on the season with six games left in spring training action.

Muskingum struck first in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly, but the Raiders responded immediately in the bottom half.

Senior Hayley Rapaglia drew a walk and later came around to score when Senior Avry Nelson delivered an RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.

Rivier threatened in the second inning when first-year Emma Politz singled notching her first collegiate career hit while junior Sophia Quinlan followed with a walk, but the Raiders were unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position.

The Muskies pulled ahead in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Muskingum added two more runs in the fourth inning and another in the sixth to extend the advantage and secure the victory.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN

Nelson led the Raiders with an RBI single, while Senior Kylee Caetano and Politz also recorded hits. Rapaglia scored Rivier’s lone run and reached base three times. Rapaglia made the start in the circle and struck out five batters over five innings before junior Hailey Berube tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

Baldwin Wallace 7, Rivier 1

Baldwin Wallace opened the scoring in the first inning before adding two runs in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets broke the game open in the third inning with a three-run home run to push the advantage to 6-0.

Baldwin Wallace added another run in the fourth inning to extend the lead to seven. Rivier broke through in the bottom of the fourth when Rapaglia reached on a walk and later scored on an RBI single to right field from junior Liv Harnish recording her first collegiate career hit.

The Raiders continued to battle offensively, drawing several walks late in the game, but were unable to close the gap.

Harnish recorded Rivier’s only hit of the game and drove in the Raiders’ lone run. Berube started in the circle for the Raiders, while Rapaglia provided strong relief, striking out seven batters across three scoreless innings.

MEN’S LACROSSE

RIVIER 9, VTSU-CASTLETON 3

With the non-conference win at Dave Wolk Stadium in Castleton,Vt., he Raiders improved to 4-0, while the Spartans fell to 1-4.

Sophomore Aiden Conley opened the scoring off an assist from first-year Henri Brochu just 2:04 into the first quarter. First-year Andrew Nee then connected with sophomore James DelPrete to double the lead before Nee found classmate Conor Walsh to extend the advantage to 3-0. VTSU-Castleton answered at the 5:17 mark, but DelPrete recorded his second goal of the quarter with 1:21 remaining to restore the three-goal lead.

DelPrete completed his hat trick off a feed from Conley with 12:10 remaining in the second quarter. Sophomore Ray Lynch then capitalized on a turnover and found the back of the net for the first time this season to extend the lead to five. Neither side scored over the final 10:23 of the first half.

The Spartans opened the scoring in the third quarter with their second goal of the game at the 7:47 mark. Both teams then traded goals at 3:06 and 2:26, with Walsh netting his second of the game off an assist from senior Braydon Bourque.

DelPrete scored to open the fourth quarter before Rivier capitalized on a man-up opportunity to extend the lead to 8-3. Conley added one final goal at the 1:17 mark to seal the 9-3 victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Lydon logged 13 saves in between the sticks for the Raiders…Seniors Owen McDuffie and Scott Miller led the team with six ground balls each…Miller added a team-best four caused turnovers…DelPrete’s four point and four goal performance is a career-best in both categories.

The Raiders return home to Joanne Merrill field for a non-conference contest with Salem St. The opening faceoff is scheduled 4 p.m. on Mar. 17.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

ENDICOTT 3, RIVIER 1

The Rivier men’s volleyball team was defeated 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 13-25, 25-15) by non-conference opponent RV Endicott at the MacDonald Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Raiders fell to 8-10, while the Gulls improved to 14-3.

Endicott scored the opening point before Rivier responded with a block by first-year Everett Boyer and sophomore Cody Fitzpatrick to make it 3-3. During a serving run by senior Bassam Awde, the Raiders added a service ace and a kill from Awde to extend the lead to 8-3. Later in the set, kills by first-year Kenji Clark and Fitzpatrick pushed the margin further. Senior Matthew McCloskey recorded closed out the frame, 25-16, with consecutive aces.

The Gulls opened the set with three straight points to take an early lead. Rivier answered with kills from, Clark, junior Tyler Dickinson, and Fitzpatrick to remain within reach. A block by McCloskey and Boyer added another Raider point during the middle portion of the set. Clark and Boyer recorded late kills for Rivier before Endicott secured the final point to take the set, 25-21.

The Gulls began the third set with a service ace and built a 5-0 lead. Rivier recorded its first point on a kill by Awde. The Raiders later added points on kills by Clark and Awde, along with a block by Dickinson and Awde to make it 18-8. Endicott finished the set with a kill secure the 25-13 set win.

Dickinson and Awde got things started in the fourth, blocking the opening swing from the Gulls. The Raiders maintained the lead until an error knotted up the set at 6. Endicott took the lead with a kill by Aidan Iacovelli to take the lead and never look back. Rivier chipped away at the deficit late with junior Justin Barish and McCloskey contributing kills late in the frame, but the Gulls maintained the lead and a kill from Aaron Bennett recorded the final point to close the match, 25-15.

Clark led the team with nine kills and a .200 hitting percentage.

Awde followed close behind with six, and three different Raiders each recorded five kills. Barish recorded a team-high 12 assists.

Defensively, Fitzpatrick led the team with five digs and Dickinson added five total blocks.

The Raiders return to action Thursday for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match versus Elms. The opening serve is set for 5 p.m. at the Muldoon Center.
