HS Roundup: Critical loss for Kings; BG girls end with win

Most of regular season basketball may be over, but the high school teams are still playing hockey. The news was a 50-50 split on Wednesday, with Nashua’s two co-op teams having a tough night, but the Merrimack-Hollis Brookline-Derryfield as well as the BG girls getting regular season-ending wins:

BOYS HOCKEY

WINNACUNET 8, NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 4

The Warriors put the Kings’ tourney hopes on life support thanks to Brayden Emery’s four goals.

The locals, who gave up six goals in the second period, got two goals by Brendon Doughty, plus a goal each from Brian Keefe and Broden Landsteiner. Braedyn Thyne had two assists for the Kings while Gavin Asimakopulos and Dan Byrne had one apiece.

Noah Soule had 31 saves in goal for the Kings, who are now 5-11-1 and needing to beat Keene on Saturday at Conway Arena just to keep their faint postseason hopes alive.

PINKERTON 4, NASHUA NORTH-SOUHEGAN 0

The 0-16 Saber-Titans were blanked for their second straight game, outshot 33-7. Justin Howell had a goal and assist for the Astros.

The Saber-Titans are back at it today at Salem at 1:30 p.m.

MERRIMACK-HB-DERRYFIELD 3, SOMERSWORTH/COE-BROWN 1

The WarHawks wrap up their regular season at 11-5-2 and will await next week’s tournament. They went 4-1-1 down the stretch.

GIRLS HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, PINKERTON 2

The Cards’ Carly Green enjoyed a four-point night with a hat trick and assist while Riley Goldthwaite and Ari Pascik each had a goal as BG wrapped up their season at 4-13-1.

Grace Spengler, Giada Kennedy and Aie Kelly each had assists.
