‘Tis the season for holiday tournaments outside of Nashua as well, and here’s a look at some good results for locals:
BOYS BASKETBALL
ALVIRNE 54, LINCOLN ACADEMY 45
The Broncos continue their good play in the Portland (Me.) Holiday Hoops Showcase as Garrett Hall led the way for seven scorers with 13 points and Sammy DeWitt nine.
The Broncos took a 37-25 lead into the fourth quarter in a somewhat sloppy game with 41 combined fouls between the two teams.
Alvirne wraps up the Showcase with a game tonight vs. Falmouth (Me.) at 8:30 p.m.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 58, WALTHAM (Mass.) 51
The Cavaliers opened the Lowell Catholic Christmas Tournament in style as they pulled away for the win, led by James Arthur’s 13 points and 12 from Yarie Ramas. They helped offset the one-two Waltham punch of Jake Meade (26 points) and Zach Jean-Philippe (17).
HB led by one at the half, and five going into the fourth quarter. The Cavs also had to adjust to a shot clock, which is not used in New Hampshire, but had just one expiration.
HB next takes on Shawsheen Tech on Sunday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
TRINITY 43, SOUHEGAN 28
The Sabers played well despite being shorthanded, down three starters in the Manchester Holiday Tournament. Julia Skelton led the way with nine points for the locals while Phoebe Faucer chipped in with six in a game where the deficit was single digits most of the way.
Souhegan’s next game is today at 1:30 p.m. in the tourney being held at Central.
BOYS HOCKEY
BISHOP GUERTIN 4, PILGRIM 1
The Cards’ Ryan Mogielnicki scored two goals to pace BG to a win in its second game of the Prout School Holiday Hockey tourney in Providence, R.I.
It was a penalty-marred game, with 14 infractions called, six on the Cards. Guertin got one power play goal (by Mogielnicki) and one shorthanded (by Jordan Delude). The Cards’ other goal was by Noah Cordiero.
Jordan O’Hearn and James Mantone had two assists while other assists went to Delude and Jack Stone. Luke Bettencourt had 36 saves for the Cards, who wrap up tourney play today.
