The New England Patriots, as expected, continue to tinker a bit with the roster while getting their practice squad set as well as their punting.
They continue to try to add where they feel they’re thin, claiming tight end Cameron Latu off waivers from the Eagles and linebacker Darius Muasau from the New York Giants.
The Patriots also released linebacker K.J. Britt and center Ben Brown. Plus, punter Brye Baringer and linebacker Khalil Jacobs were placed on injured reserve.
Brown’s release – he had suffered an injury – was a mild surprise. The punting situation may be solved by former Buffalo punter Mitch Wishnowsky, who was signed to the practice squad. He can be elevated off that on game days if necessary.
Also on the practice squad are 11 other players S Mike Brown, WR Kyle Dixon, WR Cameron Dorner, DT Eric Gregory, RB Hassan Haskins, RB Lan Larison, T Lorenz Metz, DT Jeremiah Pharms Jr., OL Jacob Rizy, CB Kindle Vildor, and LB Riley Wilson. All were in camp with the team.
Muasau could fill a role, as he is only 25 and played in 27 games with 18 starts for the Giants over the last two years after being drafted in the sixth round in 2024. He had 102 tackles with one interception and one sack.
Latu played in 15 games with the Eagles last season with two starts, and blocked a punt that was returned for a TD in a game last year vs. Tampa Bay.
Wishnowsky, 34, a native Australian, is a veteran of seven seasons, split between San Francisco and Buffalo, playing last year in 13 games for the Bills. He’s played in 105 regular season games with 348 punts for a 45.6-yeard average, 156 punts going inside the 20-yard-line. He may be the team’s punter for the foreseeable future.
