HS Wrestling Roundup: HB, Souhegan, Milford, Campbellwin

The local wrestling season got underway on Wednesday night with a couple of all local matches and some success elsewhere. Also, there was one all-local matchup originally scheduled that didn’t take place.

Here’s a look:

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 39, ALVIRNE 34

The Cavs got a win in a tight one, as picking up pins for HB were Scout Crea (132), Caden Bruseo (138), Jacob Critchfield (157), and Phil Berke (285).

Also earning wins on the night for the Cavs were Victor Lomme (113), Dylan Orr (126), and Daniel Friione (150).

Alvirne got six wins: Timmy Mally at 120, Ayden Douglass at 144, Joey Lydon at 165, Shayne Mackey at 175, Quintin Tetrault at 190, and Shawn Boudreau – last year’s Telegraph Wrestler of the Year – at 215.

HB will be at Souhegan on Saturday for the Tom Sawyer Invitational tourney. Alvirne will head to the ConVal Early Bird tourney.

BEDFORD 58, NASHUA NORTH 21

The Titans managed four match wins in their season opener. North’s Owen Gagnon got a pin at 120, and Sebastian Ochoa enjoyed the same at 126 as did Hayden Durocher at 132. Also, N North’s Kayden Vallerand-Kennaeally won a 15-9 decision at 150.

SOUHEGAN 50, MERRIMACK 21

The Sabers broke things open with six straight wins in the middle weights. Overall, Souhegan winners were Jack Kaler at 126 (16-0), Ben Smiley at 138 (pin), Cole Brandt at 144 (pin), Chase Knuckles at 150 (pin), Alex Sarfde at 157 (pin), Marcus Stout at 165 (pin), Gabriel Holt at 215 (pin) and Seamus Wellen at 285 (7-2 decision).

Merrimack winners were Charlene Haddad at 113 (pin), Connor Sayball at 132 (pin), and Carter Anderson at 190 (5-2 decision).

MILFORD TOPS KINGSWOOOD

The Spartans picked up two wins by forfeit and wrestlers Calix LaJoie (132), Cam Stickney (144), Tanner Herbert (150), Nate Post (190) all won by pin and Jack Clancy (215) by technical fall.

CAMPBELL 76, FRANKLIN 12

The Cougars couldn’t have asked for a better season opener in one of two matches. Winners via pin were Niko Goulet (126), Ben Rakley (138), Timothy Turecki (144), Sage Anctil (150), Logan Allaire (175), and Christian Roy (215).

CAMPBELL 52, NEWPORT 24

In the other local part of the tri match, the Cougars got a win from Timothy Turecki at 144 (9-0 major decision), and eight forfeits.

NASHUA SOUTH AT BISHOP GUERTIN TONIGHT

The Panthers-Cardinals season opener, originally scheduled for last night, was moved to tonight at 5:30 p.m. due to a holiday concert at BG.
