HS Roundup: Sabers top North, milestone for South’s Lowell

Mother Nature was the big winner once again, as rain and soggy fields/tennis courts wiped out two-thirds of the local high school schedule on Friday.

But we had other winners, including Nashua South girls lacrosse player Maren Lowell, who got her 100th career point in a tight win over Londonderry. The Souhegan girls lacrosse team also won its first game of the season, as did the Bishop Guertin boys.

Here’s your few from Friday:

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 8, LONDONDERRY 7

Lowell’s output was a goal and an assist, while Ella Benzekri had three goals, Karina O’Donnell two with an assist, while Morgan Udzanovich had a goal and an assist and Maddie Matylewski had a goal as the Panthers are 2-0 on the season.

Keira Walsh had six saves in goal for South, with defensive help from Nevaeh Eppolito, Abbey Benotti, Audrey Mullaney and Karina Santana.

South plays Concord on Monday.

SOUHEGAN 16, NASHUA NORTH 1

Izzy Stevenson and Libby Kennedy each had five goals and an assist while Libby Kennedy had five goals as the Sabers picked up their first win (1-1) of the young season.

Emma Kennedy added three goals and two assists, while Lyla Kimball had three goals. Ava Grace (three assists) and Lyla Hawkes (assist) also contributed.

Nashua North got an unassisted goal by Molly Ducharme, but defensively played well in front of goalies Elliott Brown and Mya Zibolis.

GILFORD 19, CAMPBELL 5

It was a tough season opener for the Cougars at home despite three goals by Maddie Cuelier and two by Ava Grant.

Rania Chaudhry had 12 saves in net for Campbell, which had a tough time stopping Gilford’s Liv Keenan (six goals).

PORTSMOUTH 12, BISHOP GUERTIN 11, OT (Thursday)

It was a tough overtime loss late Thursday on the seacoast for the Cards (1-1), who got four goals and two assists from Lauren Redfern, plus two goals from Kamryn Schmitt, two by Skylar Naftali, and one by Lola Dumont, the first of her high school career. Anna Campbel had a goal and five draw controls, while defensively Jordan Gaebel had two caused turnovers with four ground ball pickups.

BOYS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 21, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-MEMORIAL 3

Brady Dumont and Hudson Schmitt each had three goals while Dumont added three assists as the Cards cruised in their season opener at Stellos Stadium.

Sean McGarry, Owen King, and Caleb Yeung each had two goals, while single tallies went to Cam Hayden Carter Jozokos, Sean Krauss,Jeremy Warren, Jackson Warren, Paulo Vazquez, Beau Dubois, Liam Connerty and Hunter Duany.

Hayden also had three assists while Dubois and Yeung had a pair and King and Colin Foley had one apiece. Will Murphy, Michael McDonough (three saves) and Jonah Felicano (two) shared time in goal while Vazquez took nine of 10 faceoffs.

GIRLS TENNIS

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 8, KINGSWOOD 1

The Cavs cruised at their home indoor courts at Longfellow Tennis Club, sweeping singles with wins by Keira Swart (8-0), Anuhya Chilakapati (8-0), Anna Heiplik (8-1), Kate Berrigan (8-1), Iresha Sidhu (8-1) and Analise Walle (8-2).

Doubles winners were Swart/Chilakapati 8-0 and Berrigan/Malaya Colena 8-2.
