It wasn’t exactly a beach day, but pretty close for the Nashua High School North boys and girls track teams on Monday as the local high school spring season opened with a couple of events.

The Titans began the regular season with wins of 84-48 (boys) and 68-49 (girls) over Winnacunnet in Hampton. Meanwhile, Souhegan boys tennis fell at Lebanon in a team score that was the sum of some much closer parts.

In the boys meet at Hampton, North’s Kobe Perry took the 100 meters (11.93 seconds), while Gavin Sucheki took the 400 meters in 52.93. Titan Mason Dandeneau took the 300 hurdles in 44.15.

North’s Gavin Theriault (34-5.50) won the triple jump. Titan Darius Smith (136-7) won the discus and javelin (147-6)

The Titans took the 4×100 relay with the team of Perry, Jordan Toribo, Yaxiel Vazquez and Luke Peters running a 46.57. Vazquez, Aaron McNair, Peter Donovan and Suchecki took the 4×400 relay in 3:41.64.

In the girls race, Jhanelle Thomas took the 100 meter hurdles (15.15) plus the 200 dash (26.68) while Allis Frye won the 100 dash in 13.45 and the 300 hurdles (49.21). North’s Charlotte Edwards won the shot put (28-3.75), discus (61-6) and was second in the javelin.

Frye, Tiana Brown, Christina Juris and Thomas won the 4×100 relay (51.41). Juris, Allison and Sarah Frye and Thomas teamed up for a 4×400 relay win (4:20.40).

BOYS TENNIS

LEBANON 8, SOUHEGAN 1

The match was much closer than the final score. While Balthazar Grover won at No. 5 for the Sabers, 8-3, Souhegan in its opener lost two matches 6-8, one 7-9, and another 7-8.

“We just couldn’t close things out,” Souhegan coach John Kilgore said, “but exciting tennis.”
