HS Roundup: First softball win for South; big win for Saber girls tennis

It was a day for a couple of big wins locally Tuesday.

First, the Nashua High School South softball team picked up its first win of the season. Also, the Souhegan girls tennis team, which lost twice to Winnacunnet last year – including in the Division II semis – handed the Warriors their first loss of the season.

That was just one of several tennis matches yesterday, so let’s get to it:

SOFTBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 11, MANCHESTER 3

The Panthers (1-5) collectd 18 hits in pounding the Manchester Kings co-op, as Ncki Gates went 4 for 5 to lead the way. Brooke Berger, Morgan Gillis, Jill Daley and Maliyah Richer-Valentin each collected multiple hits for South, which took advantage of six Kings errors.

Cara Leblond had two hits and four RBIs, including a big two-run triple in the fourth.

Cate Marvin got the win in the circle, giving up eight hits and three runs, but just one earned over 6.1 frames, striking out eight and walking one.

South is off until it visits Londonderry next Monday.

TIMBERLANE 2, MERRIMACK 1

Marssa Nelson tossed a four hitter and a Juliana Nobrega sac fly gave Merrimack a 1-0 lead in the fifth but the Owls (7-2) scored two in the sixth to get the win.

Hayden Stuart had two hits and a run to lead the ‘Hawks (5-4) while Bayliegh Robichaud, Avery Hui and Katie Coolidge all had a hit. Savannah Hansen led the ‘Hawks defensively, being involved in 10 outs.

Merrimack hosts Bedford today.

GIRLS TENNIS

SOUHEGAN 8, WINNACUNNET 1

The Sabers improved to 6-0 as they got five of six singles to clinch the match in Amherst.

Winners were Callie Perrin (8-2), Mishka Tower (8-5), Caroline Drum (8-0), Ori Dart (8-0) and Sophia Yates (8-4).

Perrin/Drum (9-8, 7-4), Tower/Jancar (9-8, 7-0) and Dart/Yates (8-1) completed the match with a doubles sweep.

Souhegan hosts Bow on Thursday.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 5, NASHUA NORTH 4

The teams split singles but the Little Green took two of three doubles as North fell to 2-4.

North did get singles wins by No. 2 Sanya Rane (8-4), No. 4 Caitlyn Mamos (8-5) and No. 6 Isharvi Sharma (9-7), but their only doubles win was by the pair of Rane and Mamos at No. 2, 8-3.

North hosts Nashua South in the Battle of the Bridge today at 4 p.m.

HANOVER 9, NASHUA SOUTH 0

Speaking of the Panthers, they had a tough one on the road, falling to 2-4.

They won just four singles games – three by No. 1 Nishitha Matta, but South’s No. 2 doubles team of Saani Praturu/Piya Chokshi played well in an 8-6 loss.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 8, WINDHAM 1

The Cavaliers dominated a team that beat them in the Division II finals three years ago. HB (4-1) took five of six singles, with wins from Keira Sart (8-5), anuhy Chalikapati (8-3), Anna Heiplik (8-5), Kate Berrigan (8-0) and Sapph Sidhu (8-6).

The match already decided, the Cavs then swept doubles with wins from Swart/Chilakapati (8-4), Berrigan/Malaya Colena (8-4) and Heiplik/Walle (8-1). The Cavs are at Oyster River on Thusday.

ALVIRNE 5, LONDONDERRY 4

The Broncos got singles wins by Emma Coppi (8-1), Lily Belmore (8-6), Samantha Schilelr (8-5) and Amanda Guilbeauit (8-5), and then Coppi and Zailyn O’Leary got the difference maker in doubles.

The Broncos, now improved to 2-5, face Bedford today at 4.

MILFORD 6, MANCHESTER WEST 3

The Spartans picked up their second win of the season (2-5), getting singles wins by Ellie Nassy (8-2), Claire Cote (8-4), Lauren Vander Hayden (8-4) and Jasmine Blay (8-0). They won it with two of three doubles, wins by Nassy/Vander-Hayden (8-2) and Jordan Gebro/Ella Herner (8-4).

Milford hosts Windham on Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

CONCORD 8, MERRIMACK 1

The Tomahawks (0-5) managed a singles win at the top by Mikhall Agapov, 8-6, but then things went downhill.

Nithin Sathappan played well in a 9-7 loss at No. 4, and he and Agapov lost a close 9-7 decision at No. 1 doubles.

The ‘Haws host Bishop Guertin today.

LONDONDERRY 6, ALVIRNE 3

The Broncos lost four of six singles and couldn’t get the necessary doubles sweep to fall to 4-3. Zack Proulx (8-4) and Caleb Lambert (8-4) won while Sam Hergenhahn/Owen Suprenant won at No. 2, 9-8 (7-1).

That followed up a Monday 8-1 win over Manchester Central that was over after a singles sweep with wins by Hergenhahn, Proulx, Lambert, Sean Mendes, Dylan Burke and Joey Allison.

WINDHAM 5, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4

The Cavs split singles but lost at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles in their attempt to hand Windham its first loss.

Sam Anthony (8-4), John Torpey (8-4), and Greyson McSeveney (9-7) got HB’s singles wins while the tandem of McSeveney/Dylan Legrow (8-6) won at No. 3 doubles.

WINNACUNNET 7, SOUHEGAN 2

The Sabers got wins from No. 4 singles player Ryan Fernandez, 8-5 and the No. 2 doubles team of Fernandez/Connor Firmin, 8-1, but fell to 2-3. The Sabers are at Bow on Thursday.

BOYS LACROSSE

EXETER 19, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Titans fell to 1-7, but did get a goal each from Alex Jenkerson and Dylan Noble, plus 14 Josh Parsons saves in goal.

North takes on Nashua South on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Battle of the Bridge at Stellos Stadium.

GIRLS LACROSSE

PLYMOUTH 13, CAMPBELL 12

The Cougars (1-4) nearly pulled off a win but still got five goals from Ave Grant while Lili Wilson had three goals and an assist. Maddie Cuveller (two goals), Abby Guerette and Callie Hoover (goal apiece) also contributed.

Rania Chaudrhy had 14 saves in the loss. Campbell hosts St. Thomas today.

GOFFSTOWN 20, ALVIRNE 1 (Monday)

The 0-6 Broncos lone goal came from Addison Lemire, while Alexa Kruger had seven saves in goal.

Late last week they scored their most goals of the season in a 23-5 loss to Keene, with a goal each by Audriani Chipperini, Rachel Steens, Olivia Baptista, Cadence Rice, and Adriana Rilly. Lidia Tolentino had 13 saves in goal.

Alvirne is at Oyster River-Newmarket on Thursday.
