HS Roundup: North-Souhegan snaps streak; local gymnasts do well

The Nashua High School North-Souhegan boys hockey team can breathe a sigh of relief after getting back in the win column on Saturday. So can the Alvirne-Milford Admirals as they likely clinched a tourney berth. And Merrimack celebrated its seniors at West Side Arena.

We’ve even got some gymnastics for you as the state meet was held on Saturday in Salem. Here’s a look at yet another busy weekend day:

BOYS HOCKEY

NASHUA NORTH-SOUHEGAN 3, KEENE 0

The Saber-Titans got a goal and two assists by Jacob Landry, plus goals by Callen Cullity and Chase McBride as they snapped a four-game losing streak.

Zach Veilleux had 30 saves in goal for the locals, who are now 5-7, still fighting to try to make the Division I tourney. N-S hosts Winnacunnet on Monday at 6:30 at Conway Arena.

ALVIRNE-MILFORD TOPS TIMBERLANE

The Admirals improved to 8-6-1 with their third straight win as Bryce Larco had a hat trick plus an assist, while Braydon Atwood had two goals. Cedrik Beaulieu had a goal and two assists, while James Nemeth added a goal and an assist.

Cad Rouchard, Ryan Ricard, Landon Briand, and Brandon Ganas all had assists while Trent Scarbro got the win in goal. The Admirals are at Goffstown on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 7, SOMERSWORTH/COE-BROWN 2

Merrimack outshot the ‘Toppers 40-26, improving to 11-2 as the likely top contender in Division II.

It was a special early evening at West Side, as the Tomahawks’ five seniors were honored and continued to set the pace, as senior Joey Raymond scored the game’s first goal at 9:20 of the 1st period, assisted by Jackson Woods, and Will Farrell.

With the score 1-1 in the second period, on a 5-on-3, after receiving a pass from senior co-captain Eliot Medlock, Jackson Woods sent in a shot from the blue line and Cam Bellemore slammed home the rebound at 8:00 to make it 2-1. Shortly after at 7:46, the Tomahawks scored another power play goal as Joey Raymond collected a puck the ricocheted off the boards behind the Somersworth – CB net, and slid it over to Will Ferrell, who buried it in the net for a 3-1 lead. Merrimack’s senior co-captain Conor Dunn swooped in and sniped a beauty under the crossbar to make it 4-1 at 2:57.

The third period was dominated by the Tomahawks as Medlock scored assisted by Feliz Rattunde, making it 5-1 at 11:50. Dunn and Bellemore each scored another goal for the Tomahawks, who are at Goffstown on Monday.

GYMNASTICS

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET

BISHOP GUERTIN THIRD, NASHUA ATHLETES DO WELL

The Cardinals finished with 141.125 points, behind state champion Pinkerton (146.600) and second place Salem (141.400) but ahead of fourth place Goffstown (139.575).

Nashua South had athletes competing on an individual level. Abby Herlihy’s highlight was scoring an 8.525 in floor exercise, and she had her second highest All-Around score of her senior campaign. Renee Glidden did well on balance beam (8.35) and had her highest All-Around score.

Panther Nina Somorrostro had a 7.7 on floor
