HS Roundup: Local skiers do well; Saber boys stay red-hot

There wasn’t much going on locally on Thursday at the high school level — unless you were a skier or a Souhegan boys basketball player.

North and South had their all-day meet hosted by Londonderry that included both Slalom and Giant Slalom races at Mt. Sunapee, while the red-hot Sabers picked up another big win.

Here’s the breakdown:

BOYS & GIRLS SKIING

SOUTH’S TEFT, BG’s ELLIA SHINE, AS DO CARDS, TITANS

Nashua South’s Brynn Tefft captured first place in the girls Slalom race, and while Nashua North’s Rosalie Neveu took fifth. Tefft was also 11th in the Giant Slalom in 46.3 seconds.

Bishop Guertin captured the Slalom race with 376 points, ahead of second place Winnacunnet (362). Elena Ellia shined for BG, finishing third in 1:04.67, followed by Ari Hughes in sixth (1:10.28) and Madison Cail in eighth (1:10.93) and Olivia Nestor 11th (1:14.11). Alyssa Pomerleau was 19th.

Tefft, though, took top individual honors, winning the race in 1:04.16. North had a great team race, taking third, led by Neveu’s fifth place spot in 1:08.51, followed by Eden Goodman in 20th (1:24.65). Kaitlyn Frye was 27th and Samantha Nardone 37th to finish the scoring.

In the boys Slalom, Bishop Guertin was fifth led by Max DeRosa’s third place finish (1:04.10). Finley Bouvier was 18th (1:18.24) while Joe Neal was 26th and Nathan Rappoli 34th.

Nashua North was seventh as Cam Scorpa was 18th in 1:18.24. Darren Bevins was 35th. Chase Swisher was 32nd for South.

In the boys Giant Slalom, Bedford took first with 384 points, followed by Bishop Guertin with 356. Austin Harvey led BG in 43.02, good for second place, while Max DeRosa was sixth in 44.73 and Finley Bouvier 17th in 48.16. Joe Neal was 25th in 49.85.

North was seventh at 292 as Cam Scorpa was 27th (50.35) and Darren Bevins 36th. Nashua South’s Tommy Crook was eighth in 45.14

In the girls GS, Bedford took firs tat 384, but the Cards again were second in 366, led by Elena Ellia’s second place finish in 22.04, while fellow Cardinal Ari Hughes was seventh in 45.49, Madison Cail 13th (46.90), Soraya Chemaly 19th (48.67) and Olivia Nestor 20th (49.15).

North was seventh in the GS, with Sanya Rane finishing 27th and Eden Goodman 28th.

Next up are the state meets early next week.

BOYS BASKETBALL

SOUHEGAN 63, BOW 31

Souhegan captured its sixth straight, snapping Bow’s seven game win streak as Weston Hickman had 20 points, followed by Drew Reagan with 11 and Teddy Katsel 10.

The 6-7 Sabers are at Coe-Brown tonight, their third game in four nights.
