HS Roundup: Broncos get hoop win, edge Merrimack wrestlers

There was a little of everything on Wednesday night in the high school sports world. Boys hoop? Yup. Girls hoop? Sure. Wrestling? Plenty. Girls hockey? Of course. Here’s a look:

BOYS BASKETBALL

ALVIRNE 66, WINNACUNNET 48

The Broncos got Garrett Hall and Sammy DeWitt in gear, as Hall had 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks while DeWitt added 15 points and eight assists.

Now 3-4, the Broncos are off until they visit Trinity on Jan. 19.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 62, EPPING 36

The Warriors tightened up their defense and it worked as they improved to 5-3 in Division IV.

Adri Bausha had 26 points while Lexi Bausha had 24. The Warriors, who also rebounded well, host Sunapee on Friday.

WRESTLING

WINDHAM 51, NASHUA NORTH 21

North wins came from Owen Gagnon at 106 (pin), Trevor Rivard at 144 (3-2 decision), and Ruben DeJesus at 175 (pin).

SPAULDING 36, BISHOP GUERTIN 34

The Cardinals lost a close one despite wins by Jack Kaler at 120 (11-2), James Algeo at 132 (7-2), John Forcier at 144 (pin), Jack Foster at 150 (7-1), Nick Rivera at 165 (pin), Bishop Kearns at 285 (pin).

ALVIRNE 36, MERRIMACK 35

The Broncos rallied in the higher weights to pick up the close win with victories by Logan Jacques at 157 (pin), Shayne Mackey at 215 (pin) and Shane Boudreau at 285 (pin). Their other points came on forfeits.

Merrimack victories were by Chase Emond at 106 (pin), Connor Sayball at 126 (pin), Emily Angelo at 132 (pin), Grant Descheneaux at 138 (9-1 major decision), Carter Anderson at 150 (5-2 decision) and Brendan Curley at 165 (16-3 major decision).

MILFORD 4O PORTSMOUTH 38

It came down to the final match at Milford, with the Spartans prevailing thanks to wins by Colton Schuster at 120 (pin), Zach Helie at 126 (pin), Kyle Lajoie at 138 (major decision), and pins by Evan O’Connell (165), Nate Post (175) and Eli Wales (215).

SOUHEGAN 39, KINGSWOOD 9

The Sabers got wins by Chase Knuckles at 138 (pin), Christian Knuckles at 144, Noah Denis at 150 (7-4 decision), Sam Albert at 157 (pin), and Darwin Brown-Waters at 165 (pin).

The Sabers also got a pin by Isabelle Brandt in a mini match vs. Prospect Mountain.

GIRLS HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 7, KINGSWOOD-PROSPECT MTN 4

Carly Green had two goals and three assists while Grace Spangler had two goals and an assist as the host Cards remained unbeaten at 5-0.

Olivia Hamilton had a goal and an assist while Gracie Menicci and Riley Goldthwaite each had a goal. Jasmine Shattuck (two assists), Natalie Gaffey and Kate Oskirko (assist each) also helped out.

The Cards will take on St. Thomas-Winnacunnet-Dover on Monday at noon at Skate 3.
