HS Roundup: Panthers sweep Trinity, Alvirne tops Merrimack

These are good days, its seems, for Nashua High School South basketball.

The Panther boys and girls teams got wins over Trinity on Friday night, while the Alvirne Bronco squads did the same vs. local rival Merrimack.

BOYS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 66, TRINITY 59

Josh Caruso (4-2) put on a show racking up 35 points in the Panthers third straight win. Zac Castonguay scored 10 points. South hosts Manchester Central on Tuesday.

ALVIRNE 54, MERRIMACK 44

Andrew Deely and Gabe Conrow score 16 and 10 points respectively in the Broncos (2-4) home win over the Tomahawks (3-3). Alvirne outrebounded Merrimack 38-18.

Alvirne hosts Winnacunnet and Merrimack hosts Spaulding on Tuesday.

PINKERTON 94, BISHOP GUERTIN 61

The Cardinals drop to 1-5 after a tough loss against the Astros. BG visits Manchester Memorial on January 12.

MERRIMACK VALLEY 62, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 39

Despite leading after the first quarter, the Cavs (2-4) couldn’t keep pace with Merrimack Valley the rest of the way.

Dylan Kelly scored 11 points, James Arthur had eight and Y’arie Ramas added five assists.

HB visits Milford on Tuesday.

CAMPBELL 54, PROSPECT MOUNTAIN 28

Austin McHugh records an 18 point and 12 rebound double-double to lead the Cougars (5-2) to their fifth straight win.

Logan Rice tallied 10 points and eight rebounds and Jashawn Hawkins had nine points and four steals. Campbell visits Conant on Monday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 58, TRINITY 39

The Panthers (2-3) end their three-game drought behind a 13 points-10 rebound double-double from Morgan Gillis. Koharu Tanaka recorded 11 points and eight rebounds and Nicole De Jesus had 10 points and three assists.

South visits Manchester Central-West on Tuesday.

BEDFORD 53, NASHUA NORTH 13

The Titans (3-3) lose a decisive contest to the undefeated Bulldogs. North visits Keene on Tuesday.

ALVIRNE 58, MERRIMACK 29

The Broncos (2-4) win in dominant fashion over the Tomahawks (0-6). Alvirne was led by Ella Hartson with 14 points and Rachel Allard with 11.

Merrimack’s Gianna Maglio had a game high 19 points.

Alvirne visits Winnacunnet and Merrimack visits Spaulding on Tuesday.

LACONIA 55, SOUHEGAN 35

The Sabers (0-4) are still in search for their first win after a loss to Laconia. Mishka Tower scored 11 points and Chase Harms had seven points and two blocks.

Souhegan hosts Pelham on January 12.

LEBANON 45, MILFORD 33

The Spartans (4-2) lose their second straight game and hand Lebanon its first win of the season. Shea Hanson led all scorers with 15 points, Avery Fuller had eight, and both Ellianna Nassy and Claire Cote scored four points apiece. Milford visits Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

PROSPECT MOUNTAIN 53, CAMPBELL 46

The Cougars (3-4) drop a back and forth matchup on the road. Abigail Guerrette (17 points), LeAnn Ramos (13 points) and Haley Swanson (13 points) played well for the locals.

Campbell hosts Conant on Monday.
