Champions! Saber golfers repeat as Division III’s top team

They were perfect on the season and pretty much perfect in the postseason.

The Souhegan HIgh School golf team has brought home the first local state championship of the fall season, breezing to its second straight Division III title at Sagamore-Hampton Golf Club in North Hampton.

The Sabers, who went 24-0 during the regular season, totaled a 36-over 320, 28 shots ahead of second place Pelham (348) and 29 over third place Derryfield (349). The Sabers were led individually by last year’s Telegraph Player of the Year, Nick Nowak, who fired a two-over 73 to take state medalist honors and be the Division III leader heading into Saturday’s state individual final round at Beaver Meadow in Concord.

Saber Sean Zerega was right behind Nowak in second place with a six-over 77.

the other Sabers who contributed included Ethan Gaudet, tied for 11th with a 13 over 84; Drew Reagan, tied for 15th at plus-15 86; Matt Nowak, 17 over 88, tied for 17th; and Joe Mayo, an 18-over 89, tied for 21st. Ava Bawell fired a 25-over 96, tied for 35th.

In Division IV at North Conway CC, Campbell finished eighth in the eight-team event with a 366 total. Mascenic Regional won the title with a 22-over 306, ahead of second place Gorham (330) and Woodsville (331).

Owen Dodge led the Cougars with an 18-over 89, tied for 25th while Brayden Dineen shot a 91 (tied for 32nd) and Declan Sullivan tied for 38th with a 93.
