HS Roundup: Big wins for Merrimack baseball, lacrosse

The local high school spring regular season days are dwindling, thus if the sun shines the teams will play. Nashua South and Merrimack squeezed in a beauty in Merrimack after a damp morning, and several local tennis teams got matches in.
Here’s your Thursday results:
BASEBALL
MERRIMACK 2, NASHUA SOUTH 1
The Tomahawks (10-5) got a good pitching performance from freshman Jayden Gallano, who gave up just one hit and one earned run, striking out four. Evan Sousa closed out the game with two innings of scoreless relief.
Garron Brown led the ‘Hawks offensively going 2 for 3 while Zach Retey drove in Eliot Medlock with a double in the fourth. Shay Collins scored the go-ahead/winning un on a bal sharply hit b Keegan Ponder.
For the Panthers, now 4-9, Chase O’Brien had an RBI double, scoring Jcoby Cassie. Leo DePaolo tossed a complete game for South, striking out four.
South is at Windham today while Merrimack is off until it faces Goffstown on Monday.
MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 2, ALVIRNE 1
Two of the three walks allowed by Alvirne pitching scored as the Broncos fell to 3-12. Logan Casey had the only two hits for the locals with an RBI.
Mikey Bebris pitched well for the Broncos, allowing just three hits over six innings, walking three and striking out five.
Alvirne hosts South on Saturday morning.
BOYS LACROSSE
MERRIMACK 7, SALEM 6 (OT)
It’s been a good week for the Tomahawks, now 8-6. A day after they beat Souhegan for the first time ever, Henry Tobin (two assists) scored the game winner in OT off a feed from Conor Dunn, who had three goals.
Max Giles (two goals), Nathaniel Bergen (goal, assist), Cayden Dine, Sean Anderson and Hudson Rousseau (assist each) also contributed.
‘Hawks goalie Mason Tremblay had 10 saves with defensive help fom Colby Smith.
In the Souhegan win, Dunn had an eight-point day with three goals and five assists while Max Giles had three goals and two assists to lead the way. Tremblay had 13 saves while Zach Troiani had two.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 8, HANOVER 7
The visiting Cavaliers moved to 10-5 in Division II as Mike O’Hearn scored three goals with an assist while Ben Dufoe (two goals, two assists) and J.P. Torgersen (two goals) also led the way. Bennett Torgersen had a goal and Colin Magnuszewski picked up an assist.
HB’s Patrick Masoni paced the defense in front of goalie Luke Kinney, who had a couple of key saves down the stretch.
Bryson Giersch also did well on faceoffs for HB, which will host Goffstown next Wednesday.
LACONIA 14, MILFORD 2
The Spartans goals were by Tyler Descoteaux while Tyler Ireland played well defensively in front of goalie Brennan Cassidy, solid with 13 saves.
Milford (0-12) is at Stevens on Monday.
GIRLS TENNIS
NASHUA NORTH 9, MERRIMACK 0
The Titans improved to 6-6 with a sweep, the closest match being at No. 1 singles in which Mary Pappas outlasted Merrimack’s Katie Costa 9-8. The ‘Hawks won only five games thereafter.
North winners also included Sanya Rane (8-1), Clare Tran (8-2), Caitlyn Mamos (8-0), Brielle Baxter (8-0) and Leanne Grinivas (8-2).
North’s doubles teams of Pappas/Tran, Rane/Mamos and Baxter/Grinavas all won 8-0.
North hosts Londonderry today and then ends the regular season at Salem on Saturday. Merrimack (2-11) winds up the season today at Bedford.
SOUHEGAN 9, COE-BROWN 0
The Sabers bounced back from their first loss of the season (5-4 Tuesday at Portsmouth) and are now 12-1 after another sweep.
Winners down the ladder included Callie Perrin (8-0), Tess Jancar (8-1), Mishka Tower (8-2), Caroline Drum (8-0), Ori Dart (8-0) and Sophia Yates (8-0).
The doubles teams of Perrin/Drum (8-0), Jancar/Keelin Lewellyn (8-0) and Dart/Yates (8-0) completed the sweep.
Souhegan wraps up the regular season vs. Hollis Brookline.
BOYS TENNIS
BEDFORD 9, BISHOP GUERTIN 0
The Cards (6-6) struggled against the unbeaten Bulldogs. BG did get a good performance out of Evan Deyak, who fell 8-6 to Rich Black at No.2 singles.
Guertin is slated to wrap up the regular season on Sunday in a makeup at Hanover.
NASHUA NORTH 7, MERRIMACK 2
The Titans took four of six singles and swept doubles, but many of the matches were close as they improved to 5-7
North winners in singles were Rudra Patel (8-5), Navein Sribalaharan (8-3), Connor McInerney (8-2) and Jeet Panchal (8-5).
The Titans No. 1 doubles team of Patel/Sribalaharan won 8-2, but the other two North tandems of Jack Desjardins/Domingo Reyenoso (9-8, 7-4) and Panchal/Ebuka Stanley (9-8, 7-3) had to escape.
Merrimack’s Jeremy Nigen at No. 2 (8-6) and Nithin Sathappan (8-5) at No. 4 picked up wins.
North is at Londonderry today and hosts Salem on Saturday morning, while 0-13 Merrimack winds up at Bedford today.
SOUHEGAN 8, COE-BROWN 1
The Sabers (8-6) won their sixth straight to wrap up the regular season, sweeping singles to secure the victory.
Parker Shade (8-0), Connor Firmin (8-0), Balthazar Glover (8-2), Ryan Fernandez (8-1) and Patrick Bryson (8-0) all cruised.
Brian Goddard/Shade (8-3), Firmin/Glover (8-1) and Fernandez /Bryson (8-1) all won at doubles.
Souhegan will now prep for the start of the Division II tourney next week.
