HS Roundup: Titans dominate North Invite; ‘Hawks win sixth straigh

Saturday was a perfect day for high school sports, and the Nashua North track program was rewarded as such with great weather for its 15th annual North Invitational Meet.

It’s not bad being the host of the party, either. There were some superb performances, with the Titans getting a whopping 12 first places combined with the boys and girls, and other locals did well also.

Of course other games/events took place on Saturday as well, with a solid pitching performance in Hollis Brookline’s softball win, and the Merrimack girls softball team continues its winning ways.

There are also a few late Friday results included as well in the following:

BOYS&GIRLS TRACK

LOCALS SHINE IN NORTH INVITATIONAL

In the boys meet, North dominated its own meet, coming away with five winners: James Reel in the 800, Lucas Cunningham in the javelin, and the Titans 4×100 relay team won as well. Jack Sullivan won the high jump and Issac Smith the long jump. Nashua South took the 4×400.

Milford’s Daniel Sixon won the freshman-sophomore mile, and fellow Spartan Caden Zalenzki took the shot put and discus.

Nashua South had several seconds: Chris Keefe took second in the 400, fellow Panther Clifford Teixeria was second in the frosh/soph mile, teammate Rory Olsen second in the 300 hurdles and Panther Jason Compoh was second in the shot. Alvirne’s Bryant Galvez was second in the 800, while Bishop Guertin’s Alex Girata was second in the two-mile run.

The Titans were second in the 4×400 relay and Xavier Provost was second in the triple jump, as was Thomas Mason in the javelin. Souhegan was second in the 4×800. Milford’s Reggie Hardwick was second in the 200.

In the girls event, host North dominated as well (seven firsts, two double winners). The Titans got wins from Rosalinda Tavarez (200), Isabella Di Vernieri (400), Olivia Mazerolle (300 hurdles and high jump), Victoria Conrad in the shot put and discus, plus Madeline Novak in the javelin.

Nashua South’s Soraya Ross won the 100 and the Panthers took the 4×100 and 4×800 relays

Bishop Guertin’s Fiona Doherty was victorious in the varsity mile, while fellow Cardinal Mary-Kate Finn took the two mile, and the Cards won the 4×400 relay.

Milford got a win from Renee Wilson in the long jump (she was also second in the triple).

As for seconds, host North had them by Lilly Baker-Ollivierra (200), Erin Sung (frosh-soph mile), the 4×800 relay team, Natalie Burgess (shot put)

South got them from Madeline Stevens (100), Cali Coffin (two mile), 4×400,

Guertin’s Liz White was second in the 400 and Grace Jones in the long jump.

Milford was second in the 4×100, and Leslie MacGrath took second in the high jump and Rachel Gizzonio second in the javelin.

MERRIMACK SPLITS

WITH SALEM

The Tomahawks won the boys meet, 73-54, while Salem took the girls event, 72-63.

In the boys meet, Merrimck winners included Josh Felo (800), Sam Epstein (110 and 300 hurdles), Kareem Elfakih (shot put and discus), and Owen Sadowski in the javelin.

In the girls meet, Tomahawk victories were by Alexis Best (100 and 200), Adele Alexander (800), 4×100 relay, Kailey Dillon in the long and triple jumps, and Carolyn Zukowska (discus)

BOYS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 16,

SOUHEGAN 8

The Panthers moved to 3-4 with Drew Fleury having a super Saturday with seven goals. Jaden Murphy added four goals and an assist, while Griffin Johnson had a goal and two assists.

Sam Fletcher and Nate Campbell each had two goals, while Ethan Johnson had 10 saves in the South net.

The Sabers (1-7) were led by Alex Karpawick and Riley Lawhorn, who each had four goals and an assist. Nathan Fritz had 10 saves in the Saber net.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 20,

NASHUA SOUTH 4

(Friday)

In a late Friday game, Kate Simpson (three goals, an assist) and Maddy Keating (three goals, two assists) paced the Cards, who are now 9-0.

Mimi Piercy and Tess Prunier each had two goals and an assist, while Kate Campel, Nat Coutu and Emma Hayhurst each had a pair of goals. Lindsay Hult (goal, assist), Anna Campel, and Laura Redfern (goal each) and Rylee Bouvier (assist) helped out.

Cameron Laquinta and Makenna Reekie shared netminding duties, with Laquinta making two saves.

SOFTBALL

MERRIMACK 8,

GOFFSTOWN 3

Hannah Stone had a homer, a single and two runs scored for the Tomahawks, who are now 10-2 after their sixth straight win. They got a complete game four hitter (two earned runs) from Avery Hui.

Grace Lawton went 2 for 4 and Ava Melinn had an RBI triple and a run scored.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6,

SOUHEGAN 0

The Sabers (2-4) were stymied by the pitching of HB’s Austyn Kump, who tossed a one-hitter, striking out 12.

The Cavaliers made the most of their six hits as Kailey Disco and Austyn Kump each had two hits and two RBIs.

Katie Carr had a hit and an RBI while Savannah Duquette had a hit.

Disco, Kump, Emily Sartell and Abigail Guay all had stolen bases for the Cavs, now 5-2

KEENE JV 7,

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 0

The Warriors on Friday got a great effort from pitcher Emily Dubois, who had a confidence-building seven strikeouts.

Tiff Cuddihy had a hit and Abby Dowling had a single and two stolen bases for WLC.

GIRLS TENNIS

SANBORN 5-5,

MILFORD 4-4

Yes, a girls tennis doubleheader late Friday resulted in identical scores with the same Spartans posting wins in both.

Singles winners for Milford were Grace Carpenter (8-0, 8-0), Adrianna George (8-0, 8-3), and Emma Grovesteen (8-6, 8-4).

The team Carpenter and George won twice, 8-2, and 8-1.
