NASHUA – More surprising than bone-chilling weather in late April may be a one-sided Bishop Guertin-Pinkerton Academy girls lacrosse game.

On Thursday night, fans got both at Stellos Stadium, as the Cardinals were all over the Astros, 17-5, further raising expectations for this spring.

The Cardinals (3-0) know they’re good, but they likely didn’t expect last night to be that, well, comfortable.

“Honestly, no,” said Cards senior Lindsay Hult, who got her 100th career point on her fourth goal of the night. “Pinkerton’s always super challenging, they always come out and play their hardest against us. So were not picturing it to be as big a win as it was.

“But we’ll take it.”

The Cards jumped out to a 5-0 lead, led 8-1 at the half and Hult made it 13-3 with 17:06 remaining. Not what the 3-1 Astros were certainly looking for, not after outscoring their opponents 52-12 in their first three games.

“They’re a collection of a lot of talent, let’s put it that way,” Astros coach Rob Daziel said of the Cards. “They’ve assembled quite the team. They’re solid, but it’s early.”

“I was surprised,” Guertin coach Leslie Why said. “We watched them on film, and they graduated a lot last year and that was going to be a big year for them, and there was no season.”

The Cards just didn’t miss, shooting successfully through traffic, or dodging to create easy shots. Why was talking about the quantity of scoring last week; this game was about accuracy. Along with Hult’s four goals and an assist, Rylee Bouvier had the same. Maddy Keating and Mimi Piercy each had hat tricks, while Katie Campel added two goals. Meanwhile, Natalie Coutu had a goal but with five assists as the Cards’ main facilitator.

“I think Rylee Bouvier’s accuracy has improved tremendously,” Why said. “Of the eight, 10 shots she takes, six or seven go in now, so her percentage is up. And (Hult), when we’ve worked with her on driving one way and rolling. … she just adjusted, face dodging, and went straight to the cage. Her accuracy has been tremendous this year, too.”

The Astros were led by Abby Jowlett’s two goals, with single tallies by Allison Lamphere, Caroline Daziel, and Caitlin Seleny. They were thwarted early by either officials’ whistles or Cards goalie Makenna Reekie (seven saves) ,who was still busy despite the rout. Reekie’s early stops really set a tone, allowing Guertin to keep attacking.

“That kind of fired everybody up,” Why said. “She’s really stepped it up the last couple of days, saying ‘What can I do to be more of a leader?’ I gave her some ideas, and she’s just grabbed them and run with them.”

The other big event was Hult’s 100th point, something she likely would’ve attained last year (as she did in hockey) had their been a season.

“She’s been a huge, huge asset to this program from Day One,” Why said.

“I think it’s awesome,” said Hult, adding she had forgotten about it after the missed season until Why had her send her her stats. “It’s awesome now, because I love my team for helping me get there.”
