Cardinal girls pull away from North; South tops Alvirne

For the second straight game, a Nashua team gave the Bishop Guertin High School girls basketball team a tough time for an early stretch.

And for the second straight game, the Cardinals pulled away, this time topping Nashua North, 62-33, led by Liv Murray’s 18 points and 14 from Meghan Stack. Murray had five 3-pointers, including three in a decisive third quarter as Guertin finished the regular season unbeaten at 14-0.

BG led 30-21 at the half after the Titans (3-8) were scrappy early.

“The final score doesn’t reflect the quality effort the girls brought to the game,” North coach Curt Dutilley said. “In the third quarter, BG hit (six) 3’s and that created the large separation. We could not keep pace.

“We learned a lot about ourselve and feel confident going into the tournament.”

Victoria Conrad had nine points and Lilian Brooks seven to lead North, which visits Keene in the preliminary round next Friday while BG hosts either Alvirne or Nashua South.

NASHUA SOUTH 51,

ALVIRNE 43

The Panthers (5-4) got their second win in a week over the Broncos, but they’ll have to see them again Tuesday in a play-in game. Iruka Obinelo had a game-high 16 points while Aryanna Murray added 11.

Alvirne (5-6) was led by Paige Boudreau’s 13 points and 11 from Rachel Allard.

MERRIMACK 42,

LONDONDERRY 41 (OT)

The Tomahawks had many heroes in finishing their regular season at 7-6.There was Kaylee Bormuth (six points) , who hit the game-winning layup in overtime; Gillian Waller (18 points), who hit the game-tying 3 pointer with 4.8 seconds left in regulation; or Shannon Sadhwani, who grabbed a big rebound to seal the win.

Emma Valluzzi added 12 points and three steals for the ‘Hawks, who begin tourney play next Thursday. Ashley Rourke had 22 points for the Lancers.

CAMPBELL 43,

MANCHESTER WEST 40

On Thursday, Tori Allen led the charge with 14 points and a strong presence on the glass. Karleigh Schultz and Riley Gamache both grabbed 11 points. Campbell looks to begin a playoff run in Litchfield in the Divison III preliminary round next Thursday against the winner of Raymond and St. Thomas Aquinas.

BOYS BASKETBALL

LONDONDERRY 70,

MERRIMACK 38

The Tomahawks finished the regular season 1-13, despite reportedly a career night for junior Jack Tarleton, as he had 34 of his team’s 38 points. Still, Merrimack fell behind 22-8 after one quarter and 44-12 at the half and couldn’t recover.

Merrimack will host either Windham or Timberlane in the Division I tourney prelims next Thursday.
