HS Roundup: BG nine edges Merrimack; HB suffers first loss

It was a busy Thursday on the local high school docket, with some key diamond teams acrosse three divisions. A local Division I baseball contender won, the area’s lone Division III team won, while a local Division II contender suffered its first loss.

Who are they? What happened? Read on, and also learn about some pretty good tennis teams that are rolling as well:

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 6, MERRIMACK 4

Joe Moniz got the win with two innings of work, allowing just one hit and two unearned runs with two strikeouts. Kayden Forleo got the save with a clean seventh as BG got its sixth straight win (8-4).

Guertin was led offensively by Tyler Parks (3 for 4, three runs, two RBIs, a stolen base).

Merrimack (3-6) is at Alvirne on Monday, while BG is at Windham on Saturday at 10 a.m.

OYSTER RIVER 9, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Cavaliers (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season, falling behind 4-0 after the first two innings and unable to recover.

Thomas Howie and Connor Gryniewicz (two hits) each drove in a run for HB, while Keenan Myers stole two bases.

Matthew Howie took the loss on the mound, while Ben George pitched five relief innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out seven and walking one.

HB takes on Laconia today.

CAMPBELL 12, RAYMOND 2

The Cougars (6-2) opened things up with a seven-run fifth inning keyed by Adam Correau’s two-run double and Braydon White’s bases clearing single as part of their 12-hit attack. Correau, Aidan Kepple, Jayden Medina and Michael Grace each had two hits to lead the way.

White got the win on the mound, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out eight.

Campbell hosts 8-0 Bishop Brady on Saturday at 11 a.m.

BOYS LACROSSE

WINDHAM 11, MERRIMACK 3

The Tomahawks got two goals from Gabe Gorman and one by Josh Kahn, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to 6-4.

Shea Scott and Cash Torres managed assists while Mason Tremblay was busy with 20 saves. Merrimack hosts Concord on Tuesday.

BOYS TENNIS

LONDONDERRY 5, BISHOP GUERTIN 4

The Cards (4-4) took four of six singles only to be swept in doubles to see their three-match win streak snapped.

Singles winners were Evan Deyak (8-5), Max Moynihan (8-3), Jaxon Deyak (8-0) and Mingjing Tang (8-2).

BG hosts Manchester Memorial today.

BEDFORD 9, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans got two game wins from Addy Veerenfre at No. 4, and the doubles team of Ben Husson/Connor Ducey played it close at 8-5.

MERRIMACK 9, CONVAL 0

The Tomahawks’ good season (7-3, four straight) continues as Mikhail Agapov (8-1), Leon Rossman (8-1), Nithin Sathappan (8-3), Jeremy Migen (8-0), Drew Bergen (8-2) and Patrick MacIsaac (8-1) all won.

Double winners were Agapov/Sathappan (8-3), Rossman/MacIsaac (8-1) and Bergen/Bradley McGann (8-3).

Merrimack is at Oyster River on Monday.

SOUHEGAN 5, OYSTER RIVER 4

After splitting singles, the Sabers took two of three doubles to get the wins.

Singles winners were Brian Goddard (8-0), Parker Schade (8-2), and Patrick Bryson (8-5).

In doubles Goddard/Schade (8-1) at No. 1 and Bryson/Broke Keener (8-4) at No. 2 pulled out the win.

GIRLS TENNIS

SOUHEGAN 9, OYSTER RIVER 0

The roll continues for the defending Division II champions, as Callie Perrin (8-2), Ori Dart (8-2), Sophia Yates (8-4), Emma Perrin (8-3), Mariela Dart (8-1) and Elli Brower (8-1) all won fairly easily.

Doubles winners were the teams of Callie Perrin/Ori Dart (8-2), Emma Perrin/Mari Dart (8-1) and Yates/Abby Jubinville.

BISHOP GUERTIN 6, KEENE 3

The Cards took four of six singles to put themselves in position to win, and took two of three doubles for their seventh straight (7-2) triumph.

Singles winners were Georgie Howell (8-3), Lydia Miller (8-2), Dayana Cottito (8-3), and Faith Hebert (8-2).

The No. 2 and 3 doubles teams of Howell/Ainsley Flood (8-1) and Cottito/Hebert (8-4) took care of business to get the win.

BG is at Manchester Memorial today.
