NASHUA – As part of Music in our Schools Month, Nashua High School North’s music department will once again host a combined choral and band POPS! concert to benefit the Titan Food Pantry.

This year’s event to support the Titan Food Pantry is set for 6:30 p.m. today in Nashua High School North’s auditorium.

This concert has been an annual event for more than 10 years, benefiting the Titan Food Pantry for three. Prior to donating proceeds to this pantry, donations were going to Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter.

Currently, the pantry provides about 700 meals per month to students. The school’s pantry is stocked with both non-perishable and perishable items.

The Titan Food Pantry has been a part of the school for over 10 years. Originally, it consisted solely of donated goods from school staff members, but the program now receives donations from a number of outlets, including the New Hampshire Food Bank. It also receives many donations from various school clubs, sports teams and organizations.

President of Titan’s Music Association Paula Dobens said last year, aside from giving food donations, organizers were also able to collect over $600 to give to the pantry. Dobens said it was amazing to see how much food pantry Coordinator Dawn Morton was able to purchase from the state’s food bank. In addition, Dobens said the event is beneficial for the students involved in the concert.

“It is so good for the students to give back to others,” Doben said.

Tables will be set up outside the auditorium to collect donations.

The evening will be filled with music. There will be several different performances with the high school’s band, the jazz band, and select bands, along with various choir acts. Students will also be able to perform solo and have a chance to audition in front of teachers.

The night will end with all students performing together.

The items needed for the pantry include cereal, single cereal cups, breakfast bars, granola bars, tarts, canned meats, chili, canned pasta, beef stew, heart soups, fruit cups, applesauce, boxed meal starters, spaghetti, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly (non-grape), fluff, bread mix, muffin, cookie or brownie mixes, paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent and dish soap.
