AARP NH honors Marc Boyd and volunteers statewide at Andrus Award Ceremony
Bow Resident Marc Boyd receives the AARP NH 2022 Andrus Award for Community Service from AARP Volunteer State President Patrick McDermott at Thursday’s award celebration.
MANCHESTER – AARP New Hampshire hosted more than 100 volunteers at a celebratory lunch held yesterday at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester. The most prestigious volunteer award, the Andrus Award for Community Service, was presented to Marc Boyd, a respected New Hampshire Educator and AARP NH volunteer from Bow, NH.
The AARP New Hampshire Andrus Award for Community Service honors Granite Staters age 50-plus who make a powerful difference in their communities. Nominations are evaluated by AARP New Hampshire based on how the volunteer’s work has improved the community, supported AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers. The award is named after AARP founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, an educator and champion of aging.
As a dedicated educator, Marc committed his life to improving the educational system in the Granite State. With nearly 40 years of administrating and teaching at various schools–from elementary to college level–Marc was regionally and nationally recognized for his many contributions to transform the future for generations of students. He also served as President of the New Hampshire Association of School Principals and retired from his notable career in 2009.
After retiring, Boyd joined AARP NH’s Fraud Fighters program. In this role, he traveled across the state delivering informative presentations to organizations about fraud and how to prevent it. Soon Boyd’s volunteering with AARP NH grew to include shred-a-thon events, advocacy at the state and national levels, and eventually taking on the role of AARP NH Volunteer State President, a position he held for seven years.
“Over the seven years I was president, we really did some good things,” reflected Boyd. Throughout his tenure as president, Marc also served as the chairman of the Executive Council, a volunteer group that aids in the creation and execution of AARP NH’s community outreach programs, advocacy, and grassroots activities.
Although Boyd’s role as Volunteer State President ended in 2022, he plans to assist AARP NH in a variety of initiatives, including fraud awareness, advocacy efforts, and AARP NH community events.
