Merrimack woman arrested following Londonderry chase

LONDONDERRY – Heather Lewis, 34, of Merrimack, was taken into custody on Jan. 14 following a police chase and barricading herself in a vehicle.

According to State Police, at 1:06 a.m., troopers responded to assist Londonderry Police officers who observed a “suspicious vehicle” parked near the Citizens Bank on Rt. 102. When approached by Londonderry officers, Lewis allegedly fled the scene and began travelling on Rt. 102 toward Hudson.

Hudson Police responded as Lewis pulled into a Circle K gas station on the Londonderry/Hudson town line. Officers from Londonderry and Hudson attempted to prevent Lewis from leaving the Circle K parking lot; however, she reportedly evaded police by driving down an embankment and striking a guardrail before getting back on Rt. 102 toward Londonderry.

Lewis then got onto Interstate 93 north at exit 4. State Police also deployed spike strips to stop her. Continuing north, Lewis merged onto Interstate 293 and allegedly began driving on the wrong side of the highway. However, one of the troopers was able to stop her using his cruiser.

Despite having nowhere to go, Lewis reportedly refused to get out of her vehicle. This prompted troopers to shut down the highway for two hours while they tried to coax Lewis out of the 2016 Volkswagen GTI.

She finally surrendered when troopers sent in a K-9 and used less-than-lethal munitions. Lewis was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester with minor injuries.

She has been charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, disobeying an officer, resisting arrest or detention, criminal mischief and operating after suspension.

She will be scheduled to be arraigned in Manchester District Court at a later date.

Under state law, if convicted, Lewis could face up to 10 years in prison, up to five years of probation and up to $11,000 in fines.
