LONDONDERRY – O’Neil Cinemas, a family-owned theater chain with a 40-year legacy in New Hampshire, recently announced its return to Londonderry.

Set to open in July, the newly-renovated O’Neil Cinemas will bring an unparalleled movie-going experience to the community, featuring cutting-edge technology, luxurious seating and enhanced amenities.

Originally founded in 1982, O’Neil Cinemas was operated by the O’Neil family for decades before leasing the Londonderry facility to AMC Theaters in 2014. With AMC’s recent departure, the O’Neil family–led by Daniel O’Neil, Sr. and his sons, Daniel O’Neil, Jr. and Timothy O’Neil–has chosen to reclaim the theater and revitalize it for a new era of cinema and community engagement. The reopening will create up to 50 new jobs, reaffirming the company’s commitment to the local economy.

The state-of-the-art facility will span 28,492 square feet and feature nine newly appointed theaters, including two Grand DLX Auditoriums equipped with massive screens and Dolby Atmos sound–offering a multi-dimensional, immersive audio experience with 64 strategically placed speakers. In the Grand DLX auditoriums, guests will enjoy “Buttkicker” heated recliners with swivel tables, which synchronize vibrations with the film’s soundtrack for a more engaging experience. These two theaters also provide laser projection for the highest quality viewing.

Adding to the excitement, another one of the nine auditoriums will feature Luxury D-BOX motion seats, which utilize haptic technology to synchronize movement with on-screen action. The guest can personally control these seats so that they can immerse themselves as much or as little in the experience as they choose.

The remaining seven theaters will offer Dolby Surround, digital projection and plush, heated, reclining seats with swivel tables, ensuring maximum comfort and convenience.

All moviegoers will also benefit from seven feet of legroom between rows and a variety of dining and beverage options enjoyed either at the Back Stage Lounge or served to them in their seats prior to the start of the film.

A Premier Destination for Entertainment and Dining O’Neil Cinemas is bringing the Backstage Lounge to Londonderry, a restaurant and bar located in the main lobby, perfect for enjoying a meal and crafted cocktail before or after a show or hosting private events. Additionally, a second Lobby Bar will be available outside the DLX Auditoriums. As an added convenience, guests can order meals and drinks for in-theater dining at the time they order their tickets or in person before the movie begins for delivery right to their seat.

Beyond film entertainment, O’Neil Cinemas is designed to serve as a multi-purpose venue for the community and local businesses. The stadium-seating auditoriums, complete with cutting-edge projection and sound technology, will be available for corporate events, business presentations, and private screenings. With full food and beverage service, O’Neil Cinemas will offer an ideal setting for business outings, networking events, and educational gatherings. Schools and community organizations will also have the opportunity to utilize the space for special presentations, ceremonies, and group activities. Additionally, the facility will be available for private party rentals, making it a premier location for birthdays celebrations and other special occasions.

For added convenience, the theater will feature kiosks for ticket purchases, online ticket sales with seat selection, and meal and drink pre-orders. A classic concession stand, a self-serve soda fountain featuring Pepsi products, and ample parking will further enhance the guest experience.

Commitment to Sustainability As part of its green initiative, O’Neil Cinemas is incorporating solar panels, which will generate 15 percent of the facility’s energy needs.

A New Era for Londonderry’s Cinema Scene With architectural design by JKRP Architects and construction by LTCI LTD, O’Neil Cinemas’ grand reopening coming in June will mark an exciting new chapter in the region’s entertainment landscape.

“We are extremely proud to bring the future of cinema back to Londonderry and the northeast region,” said Daniel O’Neil, Sr. “Our goal is to create a premier movie-going destination where guests can enjoy the latest films in a setting that blends luxury, immersive technology, and all of the comforts available for the ultimate cinema experience. This will be a place to gather, it will offer families an exceptional value and it represents a significant revival in New Hampshire cinema.”
