NASHUA – Ledge Street and Sunset Heights elementary schools were among the six New Hampshire schools to be chosen for $25,000 Year of the Book grants from the Children’s Literacy Foundation.

In addition to new books, the grants provide funding for literacy presentations, writing workshops as well as visits from authors and illustrators.

“CLiF is delighted to partner with these schools to help strengthen the culture of literacy in New Hampshire,” said CLiF Executive Director Laura Rice. “We are committed to inspiring young readers and writers by providing materials and experiences that nurture positive associations with literacy.”

Children’s author Marty Kelley visited Sunset Heights earlier this month for a storytelling presentation and to host the first of seven book giveaways which will be held throughout the school year.

“CLiF’s Year of the Book Grant program has a proven track record of creating a culture of literacy within a school community,” said CLiF Program Manager Cassie Willner. “The excitement that comes from new ideas, new books and new connections makes this an invigorating grant for schools. Our ultimate goal here at CLiF and through this grant is to inspire kids to love reading and writing.”

Established in 1998 by Duncan McDougall, CLiF operates seven grant programs in New Hampshire and provides services to 20,000 children each year.

Looking ahead, CLiF is expected to provide more than $187,000 in grants to public elementary schools and libraries throughout the state during the 2024-2025 school year.
