NASHUA – Southern New Hampshire Health recently announced that Southern New Hampshire Medical Center was officially designated as a Level III-N Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

SNHMC is one of only two Level III trauma centers in New Hampshire and is the only ACS Level III verified hospital with neurosurgical capabilities. SNHMC earned this designation by meeting high standards in trauma care for patients with prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care and stabilization.

“We are dedicated to the highest quality of care. With a focus on improving clinical outcomes, education, quality and injury prevention, the American College of Surgeons sets high standards,” said SNHMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joseph Leahy. “We are thrilled to earn their Level III-N trauma verification and proud of our teams’ efforts to meet these criteria and offer this care to our community.”

The American College of Surgeons Trauma Verification, Review and Consultation program sets the standard for caring for injured patients in trauma centers. These standards ensure each center has the right expertise and is immediately prepared to provide the highest quality of emergency trauma care. Many states use the standards to designate trauma centers in their region due to their rigor. Patients cared for in ACS-verified trauma centers have a lower risk of death and improved quality of life compared with patients in non-verified centers.

“By obtaining this designation, Southern New Hampshire Health has demonstrated that we adhere to the rigorous international quality standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons,” said SNHMC Trauma Program Manager Jennifer Marcotte. “We are honored and humbled to service our community by bringing world class care to the residents of greater Nashua and the surrounding towns; keeping patients close to home when it matters most.”
