STAR AMONG STARS: Knights announce Gomes for HR Derby

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Apr 2, 2026

NASHUA – Could a former star be part of the All-Stars?

The answer is yes.

A couple of weeks ago Nashua Silver Knights general manager Cam Cook said he would be “rolling out” additional Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Star news for the game that will be played at Holman Stadium on July 21 and that it was “possible” a special guest would be part of the festivities.

That special guest will be former Red Sox World Series star Jonny Gomes.

“The Home Run Derby will showcase the Futures League’s most powerful hitters in a fan-friendly, high-energy competition–but with a unique twist,” the team announced Thursday in a release. “Joining the field this year will be Jonny Gomes, one of the members of the 2013 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox and one of the game’s most electrifying personalities.”

“Gomes’ participation brings a major league presence to an already star-studded event, giving fans a rare opportunity to see a World Series champion take swings alongside the Futures League’s top collegiate talent,” team officials said.

Following the conclusion of the Home Run Derby, Gomes will remain on-site for a special meet-and-greet and autograph session, providing fans the chance to interact with one of Boston’s most popular members of the 2013 World Series team.

This will be the third time Nashua has hosted the FCBL All-Star Game, as it hosted the league’s inaugural event in 2012 and again in 2018.

The FCBL has been involving big names in its off-season endeavors. Recently the Westfield (Mass.) Starfires hosted an event at Westfield State University that had former Sox pitcher Roger Clemens as a guest speaker. When the Silver Knights hosted the league’s Hall of Fame ceremonies at Rivier University back in November, former Worcester standout and current Yankees first baseman Ben Rice was inducted. Rice homered Wednesday to help New York beat Seattle.

OTHER NEWS

In other league news, Worcester will be getting its third general manager in the last three seasons as it was announced Bravehearts general manager Donny Porcaro had resigned. He had been with the team since 2017, starting as a broadcaster and performing several duties before replacing longtime GM Dave Peterson last off-season.

The team’s recent release announcing the move said that Porcaro’s departure “comes on positive terms, with deep mutual respect between him and the organization.”
