UNH HOOP: Bike paces men in 3 OTs; women fall at Binghamton

DURHAM – Freshman guard Tyler Bike of Merrimack scored a career-high 19 points and junior forward Belal El Shakery recorded a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team to an 88-82 triple-overtime win against Binghamton University at Lundholm Gym on Thursday night.
Bike, the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, set his career high in both points and 3-pointers (five) while matching his career high of four assists. El Shakery grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds as part of his fifth double-double of the season.
Junior guard KiJan Robinson scored 16 points, junior forward Davide Poser and junior guard Comeh Emuobor tallied 12 points apiece to give the Wildcats five players who scored in double digits.
Binghamton’s top scorer was Wes Peterson with 28 points and Zyier Beverly had 21.
UNH made the impeccable comeback to improve to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in America East while Binghamton sits at 4-17 overall, 0-6 AE. The Wildcats rallied from a 44-29 deficit and the game went to overtime tied at 57. It was 64-all after one OT and 75-all heading to the third OT.
El Shakery’s driving layup put the ‘Cats up by one, 81-80, midway through the third extra session.
Robinson made two free throws at 1:34 to extend the advantage to 83-80.
Poser stole the ball with 39 seconds left and, following a UNH timeout, El Shakery hit two more foul shots to give UNH an 85-80 lead with 30 seconds on the clock.
Bike added a foul shot at 21 seconds and Squire’s two free throws with 13 seconds to play cemented the 88-82 win for the Wildcats.
UNH hosts UAlbany on Saturday at 2 p.m.at Lundholm Gym.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
BINGHAMTON 50, UNH 42
Junior guard Maggie Cavanaugh and sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie of Hampstead scored 12 points apiece but the Wildcats fell short at Dr. Bai Lee Court in Vestal, N.Y.
Cavanaugh also pulled down a career- and team-high nine rebounds while Lavoie netted her points on an efficient 4 of 6 shooting from 3-point range and also had five rebounds. Junior guard Eva DeChent finished with six points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a career-high four blocks.
Binghamton was led by Bella Pucci (20 points) and Kendall Bennett (13 points, 14 rebounds).
UNH moves to 6-13 overall and 0-6 in America East. The Bearcats are 13-6, 5-1. UNH concludes its weekend trip Saturday at UAlbany at 2 p.m.
