Title Shot: Locals Maguire, Lacroix in Division II soccer final with FPU

A couple of prominent local women’s soccer players will be playing for a collegiate national championship on Saturday for Franklin Pierce University.
Former Hollis Brookline standout McKenna Maguire, the 2024 Telegraph Player of the Year, along with former Bishop Guertin goalkeeping standout Jess Lacroix will be in the lineup as freshmen for the Ravens today as they take on the Florida Tech Panthers at 5 p.m. EST at Weidner Field on Colorado Springs. Col.in the Division II women’s soccer national championship game.
Maguire has played in all 24 games for the 17-2-5 Ravens, with six goals and six assists. The former Cavalier had a goal and two assists in FPU’s quarterfinal win over Wes Chester, and set up the game-winner in overtime.
Lacroix, meanwhile, has played in 18 games, started 17 with a 12-1-3 mark and save percentage of .766, a goals against of 0.89 and seven shutouts.
Nashua North alum Lilly Baker-Ollivierra is also on the Ravens as a sophomore forward and played in one game this season.
Franklin Pierce punched its ticket to the championship match with a 2-1 comeback victory over Washburn in the national semifinal. The Ravens scored twice in the span of one minute late in the match to erase a second-half deficit and secure their spot in the title game.

Florida Tech (16-3-6) advanced to the national championship following a 1-0 victory over Cal Poly Pomona in the semifinal on Sara Batchadji’s goal in the 50th minute.
The two teams met earlier in the season, playing to a 1-1 draw.
