It’s not baseball weather but Tuesday will have a baseball feel just south of the New Hampshire state line.

It will be a big day for the Futures Collegiate Baseball League as the new Lowell, Mass. franchise team name as well as its owners will be announced.

While the arrival of the franchise for the 2026 season was fittingly announced in the hot sun at its home LeLacheur Park back in late July, this announcement will be made in the lobby of the nearby Tsongas Center at 10 a.m.

The FCBL was slated to take ownership applications late in the summer and make a choice with no shortage of interested parties. Lowell city and UMass-Lowell officials were also expected to be consulted in the decision.

According to a press release issued by UMass-Lowell late last week, the ownership of the franchise was described in the plural.

“The ownership group, which will also be announced, will be on hand to share their vision for the team and its commitment to the city of Lowell as the seventh franchise in the New England League,” the release stated.

UML is a big player in the creation of the franchise as it owns LeLacheur Park, which is home to the River Hawks baseball team, and the lease for the team is with the University. FCBL officials, including Silver Knights owner and league president John Creedon, Jr. lobbied UML officials to secure the facility for the proposed new franchise.

“Connections between the league and university have remained strong for years as a number of UMass Lowell River Hawk student athletes have played for league teams including the Nashua Silver Knights,” the release stated.
