UNH Roundup: Men’s hoop falls at Clemson; women win opener

CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team was defeated by Clemson University, 88-38, in Monday night’s season opener at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Junior guards Comeh Emuobor and KiJan Robinson led UNH’s offense with 11 and nine points, respectively. Robinson also had a team-high three assists. Freshman forward Giannos Xanthopoulosnetted eight points in 15 minutes.

Junior forward Belal El Shakery (Alexandria, Egypt) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and sophomore forward John Squire had six.

UNH returns to action Nov. 6 (6pm) against Curry College.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UNH 72, WORCESTER STATE 32

Junior guard Eva DeChent led four double-digit scorers with 16 points as the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team defeated Worcester State University, 72-32, in Monday night’s season opener at Lundholm Gym.

Sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie of Hampstead recorded 14 points, two rebounds and two steals in her first career start. Junior guards Katie Ledden and Kassidy Thompson both finished with 10 points and game-high six rebounds in their first game as a Wildcat.

Junior guard Maggie Cavanaugh had a career-high six steals; her other stats included four points, five rebounds and a team-high three assists.

UNHUNH is 1-0 while this was an exhibition game for the Lancers, who were led offensively by Mia Hanyes’ 14 points.

UNH returns to action Nov. 6 (1pm) at Boston College.
